Denis tries to emulate the weirdness in the book less sincerely I feel, but that’s because Lynch got a bit TOO weird at times I think. The Baron in Lynch’s is basically a cartoon. Denis is clearly emulating Lynch’s Baron, though. Movie Baron is a lot smaller and a lot floatier. In the books the Baron is a massive fatso who’s so tall and so wide you can barely even notice he’s floating, because he actually TRIES to pretend he can walk. Walks a bit like a ballerina due to the girth being lifted up.
