>start reading David Copperfield>really enjoying it>Davey being such a trusting sensitive kid reminds me of myself>past the 200 page mark or so, it starts annoying me>by the end I want to burn itSeriously, what is even the meaning of the book?>Uriah Heep BAD>because he wants to improve his social standingMicawber (or whatever it's spelled) meanwhile is just a fag that continuously evades debts and digs himself even deeper, but I'm supposed to find him endearing. Who in God's name found him funny? I literally wanted to piss on Dickens' corpse when the part with the letter came about, and Micawber would -every two words- shout- HEEP - H E E P - Christ... And Dora? The goddamn "child-wife"? Am I supposed to find a literal retard endearing? And what about Steerforth? Davey worships him, then he fucks Emily, shows up 200 pages later, dies, the fiance dies with him, and Davey is still all>VGH STEERFORTH I WISH I WAS GURGLING YOUR CUMHonestly, fuck all these 1700s-1800s books. They're just retarded romanceslop with a Christian undertone written by a bunch of soft faggots. I'm going back to my Genre books.
>>25342972>Honestly, fuck all these 1700s-1800s booksRead Faust, Manuscript Found in Saragossa, Sartor Resartus, Moby-Dick, Pierre, Confidence-Man and Clarel. Everything else is a waste of time.
>prime representative of realism>books are full of completely unrealistic social strawmenI understand social commentary doesn't need to be especially convincing to make its point, but it has always bothered me, yes.
>>25343007I really like this list, can you name some more please, I like your taste
>>25342972This is my favorite book by Dickens, who likewise is one of my favorite authors. Honestly I just find it to be a very entertaining book with a great cast of memorable characters, so ultimately if you didn't find it entertaining then there's your problem I suppose: it might just not be your taste, frankly. That being said, I also agree that the best part of the novel is in the chapters when Davy is still a child: in fact, the book is pretty much a middle point of Dickens's career, where the first half of it is much more like his later work, and the second half is like his earlier work.If you want, try some other later works by him, particularly 'Great Expectations', which like this book is a coming-of-age story with less of the early-style Dickensian ridiculousness that crops up in the latter half of 'David Copperfield'; this is of course at least as far as I've heard, since it's also his most well-known book that I've yet to read, but it's so well-known in popular culture I feel safe I can recommend at least a look into it based on that.My only question is, if you lost interest in 'David Copperfield' about 200 pages in, why did you keep reading for 750 more pages instead of finding something else you could've enjoyed more?

After David grew up, the book sucks. Time skips in any media suck ass including this one. Chapter 4 was one of my favorite chapters in any book. It floored me.
