Currently, I'm reading ebooks on my Ipad, but the constant backlight and the LCD screen is giving me eye strain. I decided to get an ereader like one of Amazon's Kindles or Kobo. Any recommendations? I don't think I need a color version because I only read text and not comic books. I'm looking for something on the small size like the 6 inch Kobo Clara BW. Advice?

I have the clara bw. Get a cover. It can be a touch awkward to hold - I wish I'd bought a colour because I prefer to hold on the side rather than the bottom. It's quite intuitive and easy to use, especially with calibre.

Shit for pdfs, but that's all ereaders.

Me too, my first pick was kobo libra 2 with the page flip buttons on the side, but apparently this one has been discontinued. There's the color version of it available but I read on reddit that the color versions are less bright and harder to read than black and white, so I guess im going with clara BW

Kobo Clara BW! I have read almost 300 books on mine and taken it to five different continents. I fucking love it for pirating, it's so easy. I also recommend the "Fintie Stand Case for 6" Kobo Clara Colour" on amazon, they're 16 USD and have both a stand and a hand grip on the back, and are really nice quality. I personally have the black leather one.

I had a look in the shop and didn't notice the difference. I suspect the colour is a bit washed out, but it might be worth checking it in person and ordering online.

Let us know if you discover a vast and purely online library card system for easier ebook borrowing.

i would also recommend the clara bw, however the power button broke off of mine after 5 years of use. now i need a prong to turn it on an off. no other complaints though

I purchased a Boox Go 7 recently and I've been liking it so far. Very easy to load pirated ebooks, and it's an Android tablet with Google Play so you can customize it a bit more than other ereaders

The 11 inch Kindle Scribe that released about 6 months ago is the nicest ereader I have ever used in terms of responsiveness but hard to recommend because of the price. They will probably use the same internals and a cheaper screen for the base models in the next refresh and it might be worth waiting. Kobo seem to only want to make colorshit anymore and Pocketbook are the best non Amazon option at the moment.

What is something decent and cheap I can grab off ebay? Probably another Paperwhite is what I am unfortunately thinking.
The microUSB port on mine is wearing out but this is after around a decade of literal near-daily usage. So it does hold up well. And I never use the internet but if I bought a used one and reformatted it, I'm sure I would have to update it to whatever the current firmware is.
Fuck.

Why is that a problem?

I made myself a cardboard cutout to get a feel and holy shit why are you guys reading on on such a small display? Why not 7.8 inch or at least 7?

I had the same thought lol

I'd like to convert whatever I get to koreader if possible/needed, and I don't want to get stuck on whatever current shit that may prevent me from being able to modify my ereader.
