Is it actually good?
im interested , but im skeptical because of the female author and the fact that women often recommend it

1818 text is the best one. It's good

If you go in expecting all the usual Frankenstein tropes from movies and the last 100 years of shows and cinema, then you'll be extremely surprised to see what it's actually like. It's essentially a nerd dumping his trauma on a guy who rescued him at the North Pole, and about how all the problems he's suffering from arose because Victor couldn't take responsibility. It's not really science fiction, at least not how we see it, since hardly any science happens. Yet I thought it was all right and liked it.

Victor combines science with dark arts, he is half scientist, half sorcerer alchemist

interesting. i did not realize there were such dramatically different version

Mary revised it after Percy died and that is the normal edition. 1818 was the one published anonymously. The women in it are more fleshed out and imaginitive which Mary evidently came to see as unrealistic and childish but it makes for much better reading

It's good. The protagonist is a bit retarded

It's a short, easy, and important book. Why not read it for yourself?

I have this exact version, I enjoyed it, found the end notes to be a bit excessive though.
