tl;dr, need a rigid-body container that can hold a book. Any suggestions?
I ride a motorcycle as my main transportation with a tailbag for storage, and when I go grocery shopping, it can get quite packed. I don't want to risk my book getting wet from produce or bent from the simple volume of stuff. Right now I'm using a shoebox but it's not using my limited space efficiently.
Good interior dimensions would be around 9x6x2 inches / 23x16x5 cm.

I've heard tips like using ziplock containers, but they are all either too small or too big. And I'd rather a box over an envelope for the solid form.

I offer you my shelf for you all to cringe at.

just look for any old shockproof/waterproof hard case that fits the dimensions you need
a lot of the ones designed for GoPros or similar should be about the right size

There a presses for books, they're used in binding. They are huge for bulk binding, but you can get/make single volume presses that are essentially just two stiff boards that clamp together with screws. It won't solve the waterproofing issue, but in terms of keeping the book in book shape it is how the book got its shape in the first place and is like a box that can change height to fit the size of the book.
If you can put up with the screw ends poking out and if you pair it with the ziplock bag you mentioned, I don't think you can get a more minimal use of space.

Though, have you considered just getting an e-reader for travelling? Everything in the collection you showed looks easy to acquire online.

I don't think a hardcase will work. I spent 2 hours looking at sizes and every one I've come across is either too wide or not wide enough. The ones with the proper interior dimensions all have too large exterior dimensions.

I need to be able to take it out and read it without fiddling with too much stuff. Having to whip out a screwdriver to undo and redo my book clamps at a restaurant or waiting room seems like a bit much lol.
E-readers are out too. I'd just download stuff to my phone if I wanted to read electronically.

I haven't read Bullet Train yet. Is it any good?

Use a plastic food container.

Cigarbox and a ziplock bag.

Sorry, it is wing nuts on threaded posts. It's not something you need a screwdriver for or a lot of fiddling to use.

Motorcycle and manga? Keep your chin up op. Nice.

Buy a Bible carrying case.

Use an envelope and wrap it in a dish towel to prevent damage / moisture.

I think this is gonna be it. I'm finding a lot of boxes that will fit my books quite nicely and since there isn't as much protection as a hardcase, the exterior measurements are closer to the interior so it'll fit in my bag. Plus, the prices are better for my budget too, I was dreading paying $60 for what would amount to a book protector.
