>The novel is built around an encounter between the mysterious title character and a music hall aficionado in London in 1938, the year before World War II. Knopf Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Jordan Pavlin describes the book as a blend of spy fiction and the kind of wit P.G. Wodehouse was known for.

>“One feels palpable joy in the exploits of the novel’s characters, in their innate goodness and irresistible acts of heroism, in the innocence and vivaciousness that literally has them bursting into song,” Pavlin said in a statement. “I defy any reader to resist Miss Lambert’s charms.”

ehhhhh I'll pass

I am this board's biggest Ishiguro remaining Ishiguro poster (after the departure of the original Ishiguro poster 8+ years ago), and am quite excited by today's announcement. Will be interesting to see how this one compares to Orphans. Klara was his best since Unconsoled if you ask me, so I am optimistic he's still got some greatness left in him. Even if it's a lesser Ishiguro, though, it will still be much better than most of what passes for literature these days.

I'll lay claim to being the biggest Ishiguro lurker. He's one of my favorite authors, and the only one still living. I don't expect Miss Lambert to dethrone Remains or Unconsoled, but I don't need it to.

I liked ishiguro a lot as a kid. He writes in English originally no? Not jap.

What are his most important books? I read remains and the unconsoled a looong time ago. I may check the op

He's as Japanese as Tao Lin is Chinese. That is, he's English but happens to have a jappy name. He's always written in English, as far as I know.
Re-read Remains, then check out Buried Giant.

I think I will read Wodehouse instead

Oh man I had forgotten all about those. I think I also read never let me go, an artist in the floating world and when we were orphans but I absolutely have no recollection of them since it was more than 15 years ago or something
I'm actively avoiding English native literature since I'm learning jap but I might make an exception for this race denier gook.
Thanks negroes.

I've read Nocturnes and Never Let Me Go. Should I read The Remains of the Day?

I made the chart posted here >>25347197

I have been too lazy to update it since Living came out though (it would go under inessential; it was not a good film).

Yes. Remains is his best 'realist' novel by an enormous margin. It is essentially perfect. The Unconsoled is more ambitious and I think better while also being imperfect, but Remains is sublime, hilarious, and heartbreaking.
