Does it debunk Edward Said?
>>25347512wouldnt even the most avid rw and/or racist recognise that Said has some salient points on how vapid much western conceptions with foreign cultures is? doesnt really seem like it warrants debunking unless youre talking about his more political decolonisation or socialistic kind of stuff
>>25347678All descriptions of the "other" will invariably be incomplete or not entirely representative. That is why they are the other. This is not exclusive to the Occident wrt the Orient.
i had always wondered why i hadn't been assigned orientialism by said during my undergrad studying asian history, but then when i finally read it myself later i realized cuz it's "literary theory" NOT history and that my history department was 100% correct to keep that off syllabi. that said, his argument that "the orient" is a social construct wasn't terrible, on the other hand, asia is a content not a social construct. said is worth reading, but it's not gonna blow your mind as much as his boosters would have u believe.

>>25347678Every investigation of any topic starts with what you know and has a simplistic air, and then becomes gradually more accurate through repeated exposure and challenging previous assumptions. There is simply no other way to do discovery, that’s how psychology works. Said is a fucking retard for trying to call that a colonialist power game that seeks to silence others. It isn’t honest scholarship, its slave morality brown grievance politics.
