You "want to write a book", yet you are not currently writing one. Curious!
>>25347788I am thoughbeit
I don’t want to write a book. I want to have written a book.
>>25347788why would anyone choose to write a book. Nobody should be writing anymore.
>>25347918Is it because women are allowed to vote?
the real chumps are those who want to write a book - or, indeed, are writing a book - without having first learned to enjoy writing short essays or stories
>>25347928it isn't the 1900s anymore! writing is dead, we should all just enjoy old books and not create more. Writing a book is a laughable goal. Buddy! you're not a European philosopher from the 1890's!
>>25347938>we shouldn't write anymore because writing is dead, and writing is dead because we shouldn't write anymoregreat argument, thanks for your input
>>25347788I tried to write three books and gave up on all of them. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.
>>25347935This is the truth. You should write at least a few short stories before entertaining the notion of writing a book. Even a novella gives a new writer too much grace to flail around and make mistakes without realizing they’ve written shit, 100 pages in. A short story gives you no room to hide. All shortcomings become obvious and you’re forced to address them right then and there. Not to mention it gives you a glimpse of how to get published: it’s demoralizing to spend years on a book only for it to get rejected repeatedly, with no feedback. Because obviously no one is going to spend hours proofreading your book to figure out what went wrong. But people are much more receptive to give advice on short stories, and you can easily read examples of what has already been published and try to recalibrate your writing based on what resonates with you.
>>25347948can you name any worthwhile books that have been written in the past 20 years?
>>25348046I've written a few short stories while I was in my undergrad, but this post motivates me to write more. It makes a lot of sense actually, I keep struggling with writing a book because I don't see how to end it. I should practice with more short stories.
>>25347913>thoughbeitnot a word
>>25348107Lurk more newfag
>>25348107All words are made up.
>>25348049If i name them, you will just call them shit, and keep jacking off your own fatalism. If you don't want to write anymore, fine, but it won't impede anyone to satiate their own appetite for creation.

>>25347788I'm gonna give this thread a killcount
>>25347788I am though. I'm just taking a break to call people slurs on 4chan before I get back into it. Can't a fella have two hobbies?
>>25347788I am though. It just takes time to write a 250k word thematically rich and eternally relevant cosmic fantasy disguised as a satire dystopia over the course of 1000 years. Especially when the second half is a confusing prequel and sequel at the same time of the first part and the main character of it is the plot twist "antagonist "of the beginning of the book
>>25347788I don't want to write a book, I want to have written a book
>>25350462We have AI for that now, buddy.
>>25350543"i dont want to have written a book, i want to have seeded 4chan with a bunch of memes to have the impact of a book without needing anyone to take 10 hours of their day to scroll through", said john impatiently
I am writing short stories that I will combine into a book at a later time. Punchy action focused tight stories make my ADHD happy and actually finishing projects is better practice then working on one forever project that never gets finished. I will then take the feedback from my short stories to improve my writing. When my writing is improved and I have more free time (currently work two jobs) then I will attempt to write another novel (Tried several times in the past but my writing wasn't up to my personal standards so I aborted the attempts).
>>25351012Neat, that's the same strategy I'm (roughly) following.
