The forms were inhuman and dark, terrifying and black. More than that I dare not say, except to note they were horrifying beyond description. I moved away from the road and looked into the grand chasm beyond, whereupon I witnessed a frightening black darkness of such a form that I can't adequately detail. I dare not describe it any further. There i witnessed the thing upon which my nightmares have focused these past few years. It was black, indescribably dark and frightful, of a form I dare not relate for my the same of my own vestiges of sanity. I dare not describe the circumstances any further.

Lovecraft really was the best to do it. No one tops him. Not even CAS, Russell, or Waite. I wish I could pick up an anthology and read stories like Ex Oblivione, Iranon, Strange High House, The Moon Bog, and The Beast in the Cave for the first time. Nothing, and I mean nothing, evokes the same feelings of mystic wonder and pure fantasy the way Lovecraft's stuff does. Others might touch upon the atmosphere, but nobody had their finger right on the pulse of dream fiction like he did.>Once when the wind was soft and scented I heard the south calling, and sailed endlessly and languorously under strange stars. Once when the gentle rain fell I glided in a barge down a sunless stream under the earth till I reached another world of purple twilight, iridescent arbours, and undying roses. And once I walked through a golden valley that led to shadowy groves and ruins, and ended in a mighty wall green with antique vines, and pierced by a little gate of bronze.
>the horrors were beyond description>i dare not describe them>i could not even fathom the formless nightmare>yes i know that as a writer, my job is to literally describe things in detail, but you don't understand this was too scary to write
>>25349668He saw some shit.
>>25349672>mfw i go outside and there's someone slightly brownLovecraft himself was an amerimutt, he's a hypocrite

>>25349668I like Lovecraft but yeah writing like this is basically cheating. It’s like those low budget horror movies where they cut away when something scary happens because they don’t have the resources to properly depict it.
>>25349409Was literally just talking about how Hounds of Tindalos is the foundation of all the monsters I write. Monsters that live between dimensions? Fucking incredible. And so versatile! Want super weird sci-fi monsters that humanity accidentally unleased with technological hubris? Want completely alien monsters with no backstory that suddenly appeared for no fucking reason? Want monsters more monstrous than regular fantasy monsters in your high-fantasy epic? Absolutely chef's-kiss idea.
>>25350527So monstrously dark and black I dare not describe them.
I think Lovecraft genuinely hasn't aged well because if you live in the 21st century, you already know you're an insignificant worthless abomination and society and the world doesn't give a shit about you, not only that, but society continually reprimands your existenceSo hearing about some scary space squid means nothing, we're already spiritually and emotionally dead

>>25350698>>25350703>>25350705So emotionally dead, pure, and infectious I dare not transcribe it here.
I don't understand why twitter "fans" of his are surprised that a 20th century man would be racist
>>25350712So surprised are they at the frightening black figures, indescribable in form, that they dare not put their surprise into words.
>>25349493It reads like adolescent poetry t.b.h.
>>25349409>Read a Lovecraft story after hearing about how great a writer he is>"Ooooo you know that ancient family curse you were afraid of? It was me, the guy in the cellar the whole time! I will now describe every instance of everything that happened this far so you know that it was I, the cellar guy, who did this!"Does he get better or is everything he writes a script for an episode of Scooby Doo?
