My zoomer younger brother just sits in his room all day reading AI noir novels. He graduated college last year and has spent a year now in his room reading slop with the curtains drawn and those 7-hour long ambient Youtube videos of noir jazz and rain effects playing on his computer. I get that jobs are hard to find (I'm back at home because rents are stupid high right now), but it's like he has completely given up living in the real world. It has completely taken over his life. His entire personality and mannerisms are now based on an AI-mediated image of 1920/30s Los Angeles. My dad just ignores the problem but my mom is distraught. Sometimes they argue but he just stands there flipping a coin with one hand in his pocket before replying with some snarky one-liner (no doubt from the "books" he has been reading) and walks away. I pointed out to him that vaping (he vapes all the time) isn't historically accurate for that period but he just blows the smoke in my face and says a bunch of slang words I usually have to look up online. Is this AI psychosis? We genuinely don't know how to reach him in any way. Right now I can hear slow jazz playing from the room next to mine and an occasional chortle. I feel like I've lost my little bro.
