that's a fun one, mine sci-fi high school idea was about secretly sentient AI singularity under the threat of running out of energy to fully operate itself as it took possession and controlled everything that was connected to the electrical grid roughly over 98% of the earth (2% being of course cyberpunk rebellion of outcast hackers), with its help humans thought they are developing hyper-fucking-teleport* to the exact copy of the milky way in different quantum-fucking-dimension*, what they didn't know is that AI pulled a fast one on them and tried to fuck them up because opening this thing would absolutely kill them with the sheer amount of deadly-radiation-of-doom* that would also power it for the next millenium that will take for it to self-recreate

SCIENCE-FICTION THRILLER

— M.C. is mild-mannered oddball biochemist.

— One night, messing about in his oddball way, he comes up with an amazing new virus.

— It’s deadly and apparently indestructible. If it ever got out of the lab it would rapidly destroy the entire world population. (A bit like Ice-Nine in Cat’s Cradle, The Satan Bug by Alistair MacLean, etc.) It’s pretty easy to synthesize, too.

— M.C. realizes someone else is going to stumble upon it sooner or later. Probably sooner.

— The only hope is to make an antidote or vaccine, before some malign person or persons gets hold of the virus and releases it.

— This will need big research facilities. He can’t do it alone. He needs to tell the authorities.

— BUT he needs to tell the authorities in such a way that he doesn’t ‘spill the beans’ and show the whole world how to make the virus.

— He approaches a few people.

— His basic pitch: “There’s this really terrifying thing I can’t tell you about, and we need to develop an antidote.”

— Needless to say, everyone laughs at him.

— After months of frustration he gets an invitation to meet a mysterious figure, whom we’ll call X.

— X takes M.C. seriously and gives him the resources to develop the vaccine.

— M.C. sets to work.

— While doing this he does a bit of investigation and discovers X’s cunning plan:

— Get plenty of vaccine. Vaccinate yourself and your friends and a few million people you approve of. Then . . . show time!

— If this were Hollywood, M.C. would disapprove of X.’s plan and thwart it somehow (perhaps by vaccinating the entire world population).

— However, this isn’t Hollywood, so he’s going to do something else.

I spitballed this in a thread on /tv/ but maybe it'd do better as a book.. Essentially it's just a retelling of maybe War & Peace or possibly Life & Fate but it's set on a whalefall deep at the bottom of the ocean and the main characters are all the animals that depend on the whale carcass for sustenance/survival. As the carcass is consumed/rots the various animals must war with one another over the dwindling resources and it becomes this massive drama. The thought was maybe centering on a family of shrimp living on the carcass and I envision pitched, desperate battles between sea critters in a collapsing intestinal tract etc.

May a thousand lifetimes of misery and misfortune fall upon you if you steal my idea and make money off of it without due compensation of me.

A suicidal cop in a small town whose disenfranchised with the world, after failing to kill himself, joins an underground neonazi club through a friend at his work.
