I just feel like it makes no sense to read at a fast pace, what are you even trying to do? Is it a race against time? Are you high on speed, are you taking amphetamines? Are you possessed by the spirit of Sonic and you gotta go fast? Calm the fuck down. Reading slow is thoughtful.

>Is it a race against time
You only have a certain amount of time until you die.

this is all very true. nevertheless there's nothing quite like drinking two ice coffees on an empty stmoach, opening up a pdf of a thousand plateaus, and pretending you're nick land.

And?

You can do more if you do it faster

Even reading fast, you can get a book that is so bad that you lose for having spent too much time on it, and I pity writers who make such trash

No because it's an inherently wasteful practice, you get nothing out of ADHD retard speedreading, stimming like an autist in your chair.

your life is limited, so you should be sure to fill it with deep meaningful engagement that actually takes your mind somewhere worth going.

The reality of death and its unpredictability gives me a FOMO for thoughts or concepts I’ll never explore and knowledge I’ll never know. Ok? Let me deal with existential hubris in peace nigga.

So philosophically or conceptually what ideas do you feel like you're "missing out" on?

I’m currently following the /lit/ philosophy chart from start to finish.

https://archive.org/details/4chan-lit-wiki-image-archive/lit%20wiki/3_Philosophy/00_.lit.%20Philosophy%20Project/01_.lit.%20Philosophy%20Project/page/10/mode/1up

Almost finished with the Greeks and Stoics, but I still have more used book orders yet to be delivered. It’s really the fact that you tend to learn something radically novel in every reading binge that can’t be thoroughly learned by being an ADHD YouTube/entertainment brained zoomer (like I am) that started this quest on its own. It started with the curious thought asking if I could read a book start to finish (haven’t done since middle school at the time) and ended up here currently.

That regret for lost time along with all the unknown likely fuel the FOMO I mentioned to be honest.
