>>25354891The Gospel of John, just the first chapter alone already holds my favorite verse>And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among usThere's some wistfulness to it, he's describing the greatest miracle of all but also a master and a friend dearly missed. It's supremely human

Genesis, it’s fun2. Samuel 1 & 2, it’s fun3. None, they are not fun4.Isaiah, I like how they foreshadow Jesus6. Macabees 1, it works as a middle ground between Old Testament and New Testament and bridges the gap between the two. It also first introduces Rome. And when I got to that part it felt like “wow we finally made it to the ‘modern era’”7. Mark, I love how barebones it is compared to the rest where they really try to hype Jesus up especially John. Not that John is bad.

>>25354891Genesis, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes are the best of the OT. Gospel of John, Matthew, 1 John, 1 Corinthians, and Revelation are the best of the NT. Sorry, I don't feel like giving a detailed explanation but if you want to understand how the OT and the NT relate look into typology. The OT beliefs and customs were anticipations of the NT. External symbols and culturally embedded practices were the foundation from which a more direct understanding of God, epitomized in the person of Jesus Christ, could be realized. The OT beliefs and practices without Jesus are like an empty shell. It would be like preparing an extravagant wedding and then kicking out the bride and groom.
