>be me
>read paperback/hardcover only, never used an e-reader in my life
>my friend wants to show me a book on her Kindle
>scan through it, notice a highlighted passage
>"467 other users also highlighted this passage"

holy shit i almost flung that thing at the wall when i saw it. has reading become so performative and goyed that they even tell you what part of a passage got the most updoots?

I entered an e-reader thread recently and the first post I saw was an anon talking about avoiding ads. The absolute fucking state.
>>
Eww, yuck!
>>
Don't have this problem with Nook.
>>
You can turn that function off.

The ads are about as intrusive as the "check out other books by this publisher" blurbs that physical books have
>>
>show a guy I know a kindle because he likes reading
>see his face go from amused to furrowed brow
>he chimps out and frisbees it through the drywall

>He goes home and brags about it for internet points from his online 4chan friends while lamenting about performative up votes. Doesn't see the irony

Hey I am all for getting rid, of the independence of a shiity ereader known as kindle; who is nothing more than a whore and a gateway to. goodreads faggotry and booktuber sluttery who deserves to be forgotten inside thick layers of ,wall but you just turn that thing off that in the settings The kindle only has around five settings.
>>

you can just turn that off

This was the first thing I turned off when I bought my first Kindle.
But if you're a scholar or something like that, it's interesting to see what retards usually highlight in texts.

Note: E-readers are absolutely essential for anyone who likes to read, mainly because of the endless access you have to literature from all over the world. However, there are a whole bunch of books that aren't great to read on them.
So it's not as if they're going to completely replace traditional books. You'll use both options.

Does B&N even provide support for Nook anymore? IIRC they discontinued production years ago.

Purely nonsense, sir.

> be me
> buy second hand kindle for $50
> immediately jailbreak
> install KOReader
> download epubs straight from the device
> export my highlights as .md files to my computer

Stop coping anon. As shitty as amazon's ecosystem is, kindles are still better devices than kobos and the rest. If you can't take 20 minutes to read through a guide on how to jailbreak it you're to blame.

If you send a message to amazon support saying that one of the books in the ads is heckin offensive, they'll disable the ads on your device for good. It's pretty funny
>>
>>25363078
...how are you downloading shit directly? i always have to ssh my epubs over (which is not terrible, but this seems wildly handy)
>>
>>25359571
This is the opposite of performative. It's collated anonymous data. You can't see who did it and they can't see you looking at it, and vice versa. Leaving a message is dark souls is more performative than this.

I turn it off for fiction but it's interesting in a few days for nonfiction.
