I always see people reading on the subway. How do they do it? It stinks and it's loud.
I've read thing on my phone but flipping pages seems like a hassle especially for those who read standing up.
Do you guys do it?

Also I always want to approach girls to ask them what they're reading but idk if that's a good idea.

one time i was reading Berkeley on an empty subway and this girl got on the car and she gave me this big honking smile, or maybe she was smiling to herself, but anyway it was fun

She smiled at you for reading George Berkeley? I'm afraid she wasn't real bro, is was just an agglomeration of simple ideas delivered by God which appeared to be smiling at you.

i don't read on the subway anymore but i used to do it on the way to school if i missed a reading

I don't know. I can tune out background noise easily, if I'm not already overstimulated. I just really like reading.

>Do you guys do it?
100% of the time.
>It stinks
You are supposed to read with your eyes, not your nose.
>and it's loud.
Skill issue.

Most subway readers are purely performative and aren't retaining any information.

>I always see people reading on the subway. How do they do it?
how is it different than scrolling on your phone on the subway?
some people manage to get some work done or listen a lecture if they are late

I can reread the Kalevala on the train. The short verses fit well in the phone screen.

The only noise that really distracts my subway reading is if someone is having a loud and annoying conversation right beside me in a language I understand. So then I just put my earbuds in and play music, something instrumental like techno.

last time I was trying to read on the train, there was a russian woman, arabic man, and SE asian woman, next to, in front of and behind me respectively, all talking on the phone loudly, also it was boiling. literally I felt like I was going insane.

This. Most people here in New York don't speak English so it's rare that I really get distracted.

One time I got surrounded by arabs who chewed gum loudly and held onto the ceiling bars venting their armpits at me.

>reading Plato on the subway
>Parmenides, struggling to understand
>black guy next to me glances over
>"Are you an intellectual ?"
>"Not really."
>"That's why you read Plato"
>he smiles and leaves a few stations later
>come home and try thinking of comebacks in the shower

what the fuck
>>

he meant reading plato was you embarking on the path to becoming an intellectual
