>how to age your readership with 1 line

He’s autistically set on it being 7 books even though that’s clearly impossible at this point. If he made it 9 instead we’d probably have gotten another 2 books by now. He knows how to complicate things, but not how to simplify (without killing off most of the characters).

He’s so fat he can’t stop eating the pages

>man who never finished a book series doesn't finish a book series
>serial procrastinator fails deadlines
>man who only wrote books to get into hollywood stops writing books after he gets into hollywood
I dunno man it's a mystery how could this happen won't somebody make sense of it

Fevre Dream was good.
What if he's just completely finishing the series and then releasing them after he's dead to fuck with us or because he doesn't want to know what people think about them?
>>
>>25361602
He doesn't plan ahead and has written himself into a corner.

Forever a failure and a lesser man then Tolkien.

>written himself into a corner
It's more like he walked across a huge field throwing handfuls of seeds everywhere and now he has to dig up and replant what grew into organized rows but he's too fat to walk around that much let alone bend down.

Anon the show's ending was his ending and it was UNIVERSALLY hated. Of course he's not publishing the rest of the books.
>>
>>25361602
Maybe the end really is jon dying in the snow
>>
>>25361602
Why he doesn't just have someone else finish it given his general lack of integrity is beyond me. He's a terrible writer so it's not like anything of value is going to be lost although at least if it goes unfinished we'll be blessed with his stain on the culture being forgotten sooner.

Can't we have AI write an ending based on whoever the reader wants to see win the game of thrones?
Victarion for me, personally
>>
>>25362434
I wish he would understand that people hated the ending of the TV show was because it was mad rushed. I dare say if it was fully fleshed out, people would've loved it.
>>
>>25362434
While the show's ending sucked, I never agree that it's why he stopped writing, because even by season 5 the show is missing SO many elements from the books that it truly might as well have been a fanfiction adaption at that point.

Yeah, it'll end with Dany going full retard & Bran sitting on the throne, but the way to those points simply cannot be written off as "same as the show" when there's like 120 missing plotlines and elements that George obviously wants to use (Stoneheart and Fake Aegon, for example).
>>
>>25362750
>when there's like 120 missing plotlines and elements that George obviously wants to use
He has know idea what to do with those. He has piled up too much useless shit and written himself into a corner.

>Stoneheart and Fake Aegon, for example
If he knew what to do with them, the next book would've already been finished.
>>
>>25362750
>when there's like 120 missing plotlines and elements that George obviously wants to use (Stoneheart and Fake Aegon, for example).
lmao. He can't even decide what to do with fucking Sansa.
>>
>>25362434
This.
I am so tired of hearing people say that D&D took over total creative control of the GoT show when Martin was always on staff all the way through. The ending of the show was the ending he was working towards, and it fucking sucks. He is already more wealthy than God so he has no incentive to finish a story no one wants to read, and no incentive to write a new ending that people might actually like. He can die on his mountain of cocaine and hookers and donuts without ever putting pen to paper again.
>>
>>25361602
He's just edging his fans.
>>
>>25361602
I compare it to Skibidi Toilet (another media classic). The creator gained too much fame, it changed their whole life, and they TRANSitioned to a media tour/interview/director role, none of which was their original strength.

Anon, if the basic plot points are:

>the Others die in a gimmick
>the real final battle is in King's Landing
>Dany turns evil
>Jon kills Dany
>Bran becomes king

I GUARANTEE you people are going to hate it as much as they hated those things in the show. In particular, Evil Danerys is gonna drive people ballistic. Dany has been built up as this paragon of female badassery, the Dragon Queen who slays and is a better ruler than all the men.

If she gets turned into a bog-standard crazy Targ, it's gonna piss a lot of people off. Fuck, people named their pets "Khaleesi." People named their KIDS Khaleesi. It's going to ruin all the normalfags' day.
>>
>>25361602
What will Holy Roman Emperor Bran's tax policy be?
>>
>>25362434
No, it was not his ending. Yes, maybe some parts of it were his like Bran becoming King, but the showrunners just knew little bits like that, they didn't know how he was supposed to become king or anything about his story. They cut a lot of stuff, added a lot of stuff like Queen Sansa and Arya killing the Night King, and were left in the dark about most of the plot. It's fanfiction, they just knew about how a few plotlines would end and made things up to get there while randomly killing off major characters who turned out to be pointless because their story is so much different to George's.

damn guess im back to loving grrm now
>>
>>25362750
i thought that was happening as early as season 4, but then again that was when i jumped ship and i haven't seen a full episode since 2014-15, so I could be fulla shit.
>>
>>25363493
Dany turning mad is not a bad plot point. George would give her the time she needs, and it wouldn't just come out of nowhere; likely other characters like Tyrion will play a part in putting her down that path, which obviously didn't make it into the show. Still a useless character who I don't think added anything to this bloated story, but gurm isn't a total incompetent.
>>
>>25363493
>>25363534
Anon's right but this in my opinion is why he's not writing/releasing the book.
He's an old boomer lib and he knows making Dany evil would """mean""" in our "political climate" so he's cu.cking and refusing to tell the story he's known he's wanted to tell for 30 years now.
It isn't actually laziness or lack of imagination; it's cowardice.
Only further agrivated by the public reaction to DnD's intentional half assing of his ending.
>>
>>25363545
>George would give her the time she needs, and it wouldn't just come out of nowhere
Anyone who has ever felt that Dany's madness came out of nowhere is a fucking retard because Dany was a vindictive mass murderer from the day that her dragons were as large as goats. "But they were slavers" doesn't excuse it. They were following the laws of their land, and she conquered that land and then crucified every noble that had lived there.
>>
It was never good.
>>
>>25363528
>Yes, maybe some parts of it were his like Bran becoming King, but the showrunners just knew little bits like that, they didn't know how he was supposed to become king or anything about his story.
GRRM doesn't know either. He said Bran is the hardest character for him to write, and he's the one with the fewest chapters of all main POVs. Probably one of the main reasons GRRM is unable to finish TWOW is because he has no idea what to do with Bran and the Others.
>>
>>25363493
Damy going mad has been foreshadowed since book 1 what the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>25361602
the premise is too stupid and the tv show too successful
