I like the concept of faes, mermaids, angels, enchanting balls, and other pretty things (not as gravitating towards the whole high medieval grimdark thing that they market mainly to men), but am not attracted to whatever has been trending lately. I want something like ACOTAR but for cishet males. Bonus point if femdom. So far the only thing that I like are classic fairy tales, and current I just find classic literature in general. Is manga my best bet?Not /lit/, but I like the plots/concepts of the metal albums Epica/Black Halo by Kamelot and Emerald Seas by Seven Spires. Maybe that is a vibe I'd like to go for?
>>25361974Read the Odyssey. Metamorphoses kinda counts too, but it likes rape and cannibalism a little too much.AFAIK Orlando Innamorato and Orlando Furioso might be what you're looking for, but I haven't read them yet. Same goes for Amadis de Gaula.
I found The Wolf King surprisingly tolerable for a romantasy book. Was just looking for a more typical werewolf story, but ended up reading the full book despite it not really being what I was looking for. Halway through the second book now. I ain't going to claim it's good, but you might like it like I did.
>>25361974I think you're looking for something in the vein of Lord Dunsany. Try The King of Elfland's Daughter.
>>25361974Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Kushner are pretty well known in the genre. Old school, you know.I haven't read them, though.
