iPad for reading

Is it good?

Is it worth it?

yes, it will be the best purchase you've ever made. there is a high chance you will never truly maximize the device's utility, but that's simply an inevitability given the amount of depth it comes frontloaded with. whether you will actually meet your reading goals is more of a thing that is up to you because ever since the 120GB iPod fiasco, Apple has never claimed that a collection of things will always see regular use

Unless you plan to use it during lectures to take notes, etc., a Kindle is much better.

Tablets are nice for getting all comfy in bed and watching media of your choice. Reading too, I'd say if you are mostly reading PDF textbooks they are better than ebooks. If you like comic books or manga tablets are also better than ebooks. I mean, there are ebooks that have coloured screens, but they are expensive and for that price its better to buy a tablet. Additionally, tablets are not very good for mobile gaming, I've tried some games with my friends and trying to shoot with tablet controls is just pure misery. They are nice for gaming though if you connect a controller and emulate some PS1 games, but I'm not a fan of PS1 games. Some people use them for studying, but idk, then you would need a connectable keyboard or something and I never tried that. Overall, if you want it solely for reading, better to get a ebook. If you want a dumb downed PC that is jack of all trades master of none, get a tablet.

Primarily for reading? Kindle Scribe. I have both. Reading on a screen is just better when it’s e-ink and no amount of cope changes this.

Anna’s archive + iPad is a modern miracle. Extremely worth it (posted from my reading iPad loaded with hundreds of pdfs).

From what I understand kindles are bad with pdfs, so unless you exclusively read epubs (which tends to be fiction, whereas non-fiction tends towards pdfs), yes it’s worth it.

Calibre has been around for decades and it effortless converts and transfers epubs into a kindle.

kindle (or any other ereader you can find) for general reading, but ipad for manuals, which are mostly pdf.

I'm using a jailbroken kindle with koreader in order to be able to read epubs, and because I heard amazon is removing sideloaded books, although not sure how real are those claims. So if you don't want to jailbreak it, don't get a kindle.

All in all, ipad seems like the best choice to be honest. You can just download books in any format and read any format without issues. Just beware that the battery sucks ass compared to an eink ereader.

Yes, I tried kindle and iPad mini and I can safely say iPad is much more convenient. The glare and digital screen were off-putting at first, but I inverted the screen and applied a paper-like screen protector, and it's golden.
