>>25362880I don't need the English translationswhy can't they just print monolingual Latin books in nice hardcover cloth bindings?
>>25362889The English translations are really bad sometimes too (ie George Thornley’s 1600s Longus and Benjamin Bickey Rogers’ Aristophanes).
>>25362889I think being fluent in greek and latin has become rare enough to the point that most publishers do not see a market in the 5 remaining classicists that want to read latin only. idk about america but here in europe such volume are usually pretty cheap to get in second hand shops though.
>>25362890Is the current Loeb edition of Plato's Republic any good? I've usually seen CDC Reeve's translation recommended, though, but I don't know if it's the academic standard, but I wouldn't mind having the Greek.
I’ve got mostly green loebs (the plays) but a few red ones (Ovid)
>>25362914But status quo defenders on /lit/ told me the collective intelligence of the population would have no personal impact on me.
>>25362880Loeb was a jew heir who spend all his wealth LARPing as if he were a European.
I have only around 20. I've recently decided to buy as many second hand ones I can get on decent prices (10-15 Euros) before buying them new (no discounts in Yurop).
I have all of them. It’s a very satisfying section of my library
>>25363750Autism?
>>25363763Worse. Classics major turned pharmafag
>>25362880I ordered two volumes of the Vulgate and one volume of Virgil, very much excited to read them.>>25362917It's shit http://www.onthenewloebrepublic.com/
>>25363774>there's a whole website dedicated to shitting on a single Loeb translationWew
>>25363774That’s a cool grammatical resource for Plato. Saved
Does there exist a list of works where the Loeb edition is the preferred translation and works where, like >>25363774, the Loeb edition should be avoided like the plague?
>>25363774>It's shitI got Aristotle's Art of Rhetoric, the Freese translation as revised by Striker, from 2020. Please tell me I didn't fuck up.
>>25362914I wish there was a small run printing service so I could send them a pdf formatted in a specific way and a hundred bucks and get a standardised cloth hardback in return. Maybe like that thread an anon made where he was formatting books with Latex.
>>25362889does loeb publish texts? i thought it was just oxford and leipzig that did that
>>25363769i mean, i would have loved to study classics in college instead of becoming a stemfag which i hate, but everyone told me that it would be suicide as i would end up a NEET and i think they were right
>>25363769So you're a drug pusher huh?
Of Oaks and Loeb, what are the best translations?

I'd rather just have an edition with pure Latin/Greek text with footnotes for all words less frequent than the top 5000 most frequent words and notes explaining how to parse difficult passages
