Psychoanalysis is basically a cult, and if you get initiated, your life might just go on a 20 or 50 year detour into hell. Mine lasted about 5 years. Also be aware there are many psychoanalyst High Priests who live in hiding, rarely revealing their true inspirations. Harold Bloom is such a High Priest. I cannot stress how dangerous Freud is. You are probably safer reading Aleister Crowley. He can be easily refuted if you grasp some certain principles, but his Cult of the Sexual Self is quite good at wooing and cajoling the worst parts of the self, and if you are not read-in to some of the program's failures or cued into its falsities, you may just sing a little siren song to yourself and run off into the enchanted forest of forbidden delights, never to return again.
