It took me 18 months, but I finished it. 7.5 /10. The last book was very disappointing, and the series had a lot of rough patches and issues. But I think it was worth reading.

I think I've discussed here before fondly remembering the first 1.5 books just for the mild foreshadowing on a reread, and Rand hoping desperately that his comfortable new shoes are not 'Aes Sedai work' and only the rest of a good cobbler.As you said it's rough in spots but it's ultimately a lot of fun even with endless braid tugging and sniffing. Forget the greek gender war posters, just force people to read the series at gunpoint.
