And not all ugly people have ugly personalities/souls, but those who have specific deformities that manifest into insecurities (pynchon is famous for his reclusiveness/not wanting his photo to be taken, obviously due to a hyper-self awareness of his appearance) will tend to have those insecurities dictate conscious decision and choices (I.E. self-exclusion) which reinforces itself cyclically. For Pynchon, to be anti-fascist is merely a causal byproduct of probably mouth breathing as a child or sucking his thumb too long into childhood (Physical actions that tend to cause overbites such as his), and you could say that the childhood mouth breather or thumb sucker, that those specific physical actions themselves reflect a personality type of timidness, inherently neurotic and self-aware/self conscious, someone who perceives themselves to be in constant danger and therefore is constantly seeking comforting reassuring patterns of behavior. In many ways this all goes back to how the mind and body are one which play into themselves, the mind is a physical structure dependent on the body, and of course we see how that plays out in cases like when babies are deprived with oxygen in birth, how that obviously causes mental deficiencies which therefore cause personality changes, and that is no different than what we have here, some mind that is inherently dependent on the body, and some body that is intertwined with its mind. Each shape the other. The covert and overt self are mirrors self-reflecting and self-correcting. A long series of cause and effect and pattern recognition.Anyway, this is my schizo-rant on Pynchon.
