But to say that he is incoherent (not the same thing as: inconsistent) is worse than dishonest, it's just "nuh-uh", because everyone has a clear idea of what he was about. He is quite coherent: build the party, preserve the race. One can argue that the Whole he is selling is bull, but many of the parts and bits of rhetoric that he uses, taken atomically, make sense in themselves, and this is how you set any hook. As he himself correctly notes in the text, the emotions are far stronger than the intellect, and this is just what he uses to build his power (and the general angry, articulate tone throughout is what makes for interesting reading, leaving aside the historical context).
