Oh, my beautiful liarOh, my precious whoreMy disease, my infectionI am so impure
>>25378696I am so, so, so, so, so tired of extremely stupid or ignorant people acting extremely confident and arrogant. It feels like there's more such people than previously. Their unshakable confidence while asserting the most plain of untruths leaves me feeling almost helpless. Educating children is easier than talking to these people, and I would at least get payment for my work as a teacher. Why, fucking why are they incapable of any self-doubt or self-reflection? They're so confident and arrogant that even I end up questioning MYself, needing to double-check and re-confirm that all facts and common sense rest squarely on my side.It feels almost like fighting the fucking tide.
>>25378777same, but I don't know why eitherI like to tell myself that they are just lucky enough to never have to face cold hard truth because of somehow maintaining some kind of priviledged trajectory through the world that has somehow kept them from facing the consequences of their actions/stupidity/falsehoods, and as such they can remain blissfully immune to the assertions of reality that force some kind of self-reflectionhowever that seems statistically unlikely and doesn't really account for the multitudes of these people. anecdotally i've seen a lot of these types through life and the best i can offer beyond unhelpful labels like just calling them psychos/sociopaths is that these people feed off of solidarity of others with the same type, and the strength in numbers serves as a justification to repress the internal/external contradictions they face and enables them to bully others trying to convince them otherwise or offer evidence to the contrary of their attitudesi generally don't really see these types being bold or thriving in isolation as much. even the roided up people who just think they can beat everyone up are usually in some kind of gang of these types of retards, and there really is always someone bigger than younot advocating violence of course but some people have just never been punched in the face or met their match without their backup either
Unless I'm actively trying to formulate or conceive of an idea, literal mush is all that my brain contains. Just pure nonsense and idiocy.

I genuinely might be the most facially unattractive man in this entire third-tier city.
Is there any example in the entirety of fiction where a woman sacrifices herself for a man? It seems only the reverse happens, that only men have the sacrificial instinct. Which is interesting because historically women have been the ones to make sacrifices in life and carry any familiar burdens, but when it comes to matters of life-and-death or imprisonment, they do not.cue that one video of a bunch of men saying they'd trade their life for their partner's and a bunch of women saying they wouldn't

>>25378696How can you not go crazy in this world anons? i mean almost everything is fake and gay, from the economy (create money out of thin air), fake jobs, endless wars, giving money to rich people/corporations while the average person is getting fucked, boomers, work who's a humilation ritual, sending billions to foreign countries while your people are starving, dating for men, etc
>>25378564I think tolkien hated the in your face algorithms. The works were meant be religious as he says in letter 142:>The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out, practically all references to anything like ‘religion’, to cults or practices, in the imaginary world. For the religious element is absorbed into the story and the symbolism.
My cat got hit by a car a week ago.Was missing for 3 days, then on Saturday he dragged himself to my yard.Poor guy was limping. Vet looked at him, said something along the lines of his hip bone being broke on one side.Got a different vet to put it back into place, but still broken. Says he doesn't do the surgery. We're asking other vets if they will.Prognosis is bleak. Without surgery he might walk, even jump small heights like on the bed or couch. However he might try a jump to high and hurt himself. The bone itself could dislocate again with sudden movement or just infect. So if the other vets don't attempt a surgery, I'm not sure what to do.Leaning to giving him his rehabilitation period and seeing how things go.But if his quality of life is shit idk what to do. It would be easier if he was really suffering, but he seems to be all there despite the hurt.I don't want to put kitty to sleep. He's only 3 years old. Was planning on taking him with us when we move abroad in a year. Now I'm keeping an eye out for nice places to bury him..Shit sucks bros. Will upload a picture in an hour

Alright alright lets see what we got here *flips through rolladex*Shawshank Redemption is about the victory of a tapeworm in a very sick septic system run by a repressed homosexual ‘head’ who foolishly tries to strictly enforce anal retention and experiences catastrophic rectal failure leading to suicide. The rape goons are synecdoche or whatever for a guy trying to keep his own shit kept in. Because as a sodomite your primary concern is ANALCONTROL. Not only is this your sexual bread-and-butter, but it is the difference between dom and sub, life or death. You are raping or you are being raped, and if you cannot control your asshole then you are fucking finished. Not just because your sodomite asshole lost it’s facade of domination, but because you are MEDICALLY FINISHED. A tapeworm crawls out of your ass and now you have to go to the doctor and admit what you’ve done and watch yourself die admitting it, asshole good to no one. The control is loss. Total existential anal breach. What else uuuh *flips some pages* Red is blood, he’s Tapeworm Andy’s best friend, and after leaving through the raptured anus after years of slow secret anal loosening, the blood and the tapeworm meet again, with another VESSEL ready. Any questions

Anon who likes to read at the library here: I've always found it rather peculiar that Thursdays are without fail the least busy day at the library. Sometimes when I show up to read there's only one other person in the entire fiction area I sit in. I would have previously assumed Friday to be the slowest day, but nope, it's actually pretty active on that day. So why Thursday? Strange. I wonder if it's a universal thing for all businesses and outside activities, if people in general just stay home on that day.
A human being cannot even create a fly. Can you? Try. Can you even name a scientific research facility that has managed to make a fly without using flies? No you cannot. A human being cannot even create a fly.But the Atheists and Agnostics believe that utter nothingness created our universe and also the human beings inside of it.Does this make any sense? Do you expect to see a fly materialize out of thin air in front of you? Has such a thing ever happened? Then why do you expect an entire universe materialized out of literally nothing? If you consider yourself clever and defer to ad infinitum regression, or “turtles all the way down” consider the following question:Why is it “turtles all the way down” instead of just nothing? To answer this you need a higher order cause of causality, you cannot defer and defer and defer or else you never get around to answering the question, you silly goose! Now what is a more intelligent statement?A) “Turtles all the way down” because turtles because turtles because turtles....B) You cannot get something from nothing, so Something made this world. But this Something is not like any other thing in the world-- being “outside” of the world it is in every sense beyond it, transcendent of it.

It's getting to the point where these old mass market paperbacks from the '60s & '70s are just too old to read, now -- They just get brittle. I guess it's the acid in the paper? As a result I recently bought myself a (new) copy of ACC's complete short stories. It says specifically on the publisher's information page that this book has been made w/ acid-free paper. So, you would think this book, being printed recently, this physical object, will be readable for a conceivably longer period than the 40-60 y/o paperbacks printed by pulp sciene fiction houses?>>25380258Man After Man by Dougal Dixon. Been wanting to read it for years but I've always been too poor to ever afford a copy and as a result I've autistically refused to simply read the book on PDF and that I'd wait until I could, if ever, get my paws on a copy (they're all used, it's been out of print since the '80s). I've seen it on Amazon go for well over $1k CAD. The fact I just happened to get NEETbux coupled w/ the fact that the book WAS ONLY $127, I was like "Holy shit!" and sniped that shit so fast bruv. This is the result of putting expensive/rare shit in my Amazon wishlist and diligently checking it regularly.>>25380299As I've grown older my collection of art books has grown to be somewhat respectable.

I have close friends with whom I have never had a serious conversation. It seems impossible to have an earnest deep connection with friends anymore. EVERYTHING is behind a layer of irony, sarcasm or facetiousness. Every time I try to steer a conversation or chat towards deeper things, it lasts like 10 seconds before someone makes a joke or a hyperbole, or in a chat posts a meme or a skull emoji or whatever. The closest I have come to finding a truly open discourse is with women friends. But inevitably sooner or later one or both catch feelings, become self-conscious and conceited, and that also prevents a genuine connection. The loneliness of the postmodern world is utter misery and torture. Although I think it is pushing me to try to build a connection with God which is a good thing I guess.

>>25380425Hey, I have nothing against Bob Ross personally, my issue is with the people who bring him up in bizarre, embarrassing contexts. It'd be like bringing up Dr Seuss in a discussion of serious literature, lol.

I swear I might start carrying a handkerchief around in public. One of the side effects of my daily medication is it makes me sweat at any physical exertion, which includes walking any appreciable distance, and I can't take it anymore, it makes me feel and probably look ridiculous. If I could at least wipe and dry my face, that'd be mighty effective in neutralizing the discomfort.

>>25380489No family? I'm old (29) but I'm close in the way you describe to my family. I'm pretty terrified of my dad dying.
>>25380489this isn’t a modern affliction and it seems to be only americans who feel the need to constantly point it out (earnestness prized, wit seen as a symptom rather than skill). life is tragedy salted with humour, the people who think everything is a joke have understood this perfectly. it’s the ones banging on about Deep and Meaningful Conversation who usually haven’t.
>>25380583I think the point is the balance has gotten all out-of-whack.
The warmth the pure experience when approaching God is the same fire that burns the wicked. But the burning is not punitive; the wicked are illuminated in the flames, and see how far they have fallen short, and the source of their weeping and gnashing of teeth is found in this revealing light. No one who is illumined in this way, and comes to see what they may have been and what they have become instead, would not weep.
>>25380583>life is tragedy salted with humourYou have to be a very particular kind of person to think this kek. Life generally just "is" and tragedy and happiness are near-equally sparse, although I agree that tragedy is significantly more common relative to its opposite. And humor is overrated.
>>25380586balance is an overrated virtue, anyone (sober) who tries to start a serious conversation with an unwitting friend deserves a skull emoji.
>>25380593>skull emoji.Digital ebonics, gross.
>>25380593Again, balance, it works both ways. Yeah, a lot of people on 4chan and reddit who complain about lack of 'serious, super deep conversations' are autists bringing up topics at the wrong time, but on the other hand, being around friends all the time, there's gonna be a need and desire to talk about something real at least some of the time. So the complaint is that social need isn't being met.If your next reply is "well you should learn to live without", then that only circles back to the OP's complaint.
>>25380588there’s a good kingsley amis quote >The rewards for being sane may not be very many, but knowing what's funny is one of them
>>25380597again, i don’t rate balance. if anything the idea of ‘balance’ is the modern concept here.
>>25380598Can you post the entirety of that paragraph? I like these kinds of texts, descriptions and comparisons of the greatest works of art.Just like this wonderful Walter Pater quote I often share and personally return to,>Good art, but not necessarily great art; the distinction between great art and good art depending immediately, as regards literature at all events, not on its form, but on the matter. Thackeray's Esmond, surely, is greater art than Vanity Fair, by the greater dignity of its interests. It is on the quality of the matter it informs or controls, its compass, its variety, its alliance to great ends, or the depth of the note of revolt, or the largeness of hope in it, that the greatness of literary art depends, as The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, Les Misérables, The English Bible, are great art. Given the conditions I have tried to explain as constituting good art;—then, if it be devoted further to the increase of men's happiness, to the redemption of the oppressed, or the enlargement of our sympathies with each other, or to such presentment of new or old truth about ourselves and our relation to the world as may ennoble and fortify us in our sojourn here, or immediately, as with Dante, to the glory of God, it will be also great art; if, over and above those qualities I summed up as mind and soul—that colour and mystic perfume, and that reasonable structure, it has something of the soul of humanity in it, and finds its logical, its architectural place, in the great structure of human life.
>>25380603Someone hasn't read Aristotle...
>>25380606aristotle is modern. once the greeks started trying to decry myth, they went to pieces altogether. they tried to put in its place what we would now call scientific concepts. they tried to give it a literal explanation. socrates jokes about myths, and horace makes fun of them. they had no use for poetic thought.
i am reverting back to Protestantism i'm very glad for the time i spent in the Church and i learned a great deal, but it occurs to me now that i'm actually not Catholic
