Starting this a bit late gentsGood book so far, just got to the part where they kill Ned
>>25382979I read this in high school.
>>25382982My Asian friend used to call me Anon Lord of Ham. Now I know why
>>25382979You can stop at the third book. The fourth and five ones are over 1000 pages of blueballing that leads to nowhere, and the fat man will never finish the saga anyway
>>25382996Right?I listened to audiobooks of all books, but by 4th book I began to wonder what the fuck even is happening anymore.Suddenly we have all these late bloomer POVs, Theon's horny sister, Theon's uncle, three Dorne POVs.Just why? I just don't care about anyone. This story was supposed to be about Jon, Sansa, Arya, Tyrion, and Dany.
>>25383009Dunno how much are you deep into the fandom's knowledge. Its well know that after book three Martin originally planned a 5-6 years timeskip, that he eventually scrapped. A lot of these new POVs from book four onwards are needed to rush all the events that with the timeskip would had just happened offscreen. Eventually Martin became overwelmed with alla the characters and subplot he made to compensate che scrapped timeskip and found himself into a serious writer's block
>>25383060why didn't he do the timeskip?
>>25383009Fuck seriously? At least he finished the damn books
>>25382996Wait what? The BOOKS aren't even finished? You're kidding me right? I thought the books were finished before the show started
>>25383009>Right?>>25383060>Dunno how much are you deep into the fandom's knowledge>>25383067>Fuck seriously?>>25383077>Wait what?Kys.
>>25383079Fight those shadows big guy
>>25383065He didnt want a lot of offscreen plot-relevant stuff to be explained by the characters in boring esposition dumps. He also tought the timeskip would had been bad for some characters, as they would had been forced to do pretty much nothing for years (es. Jon Snow and Stannis) >>25383077Did you lived under a rock for 16 years? Or just trolling? GOT ended in a memetic disaster (also) because the producers runned up of books to adapt around season 5
>>25383109Dude he put pen to paper in 1995. It's been 30 fucking years.
>>25383109>He also tought the timeskip would had been bad for some charactersYou think that's bad? What happens now that he has to work a 10+ year timeskip in?
>>25383118What timeskip? There is no timeskip in the books at all at the moment
>>25383122The characters will have aged 15 years at least when the next book finally releases
Read this instead of books 4 and 5. It's immeasurably better.
>>25383129lol
>>25383140What's it about
>>25383009>Just why?$$$$$$$
>>25383543Come on bro you're rich just finish the story for us please George won't you do it for your loyal fan? We just want to move on
>>25382979thanks for the spoiler fuckface
>>25383097I wasn't implying all those posts came from a single person (hence the space before kys), retard. I was mocking the fact you all post like braindead redditors.
>>25384042Then you're even more pathetic than I first surmised.
>>25382996>You can stop at the third book.then why would I read any of the books?
>>25384064>t. retard who has never had a girlfriend, reads fantasy slop, and speaks like a redditor Lol, you definitely own Funkos.
>>25384118You just activated my trap card
>>25384118>gets involved with modern wom*n>calls others retardsLOL
>>25384357For someone as desperate as you there's no such thing as a trap. >>25384600>incelLol
>>25382982I got it as a Christmas gift in ninth or tenth grade and it was what got me to start reading again after I basically hadn't read anything outside of school for three years
>>25382979ps2 rock band guitar hero algorithm
>>25382979xbox oomph algorithm
>>25382979snk capcom vs snk two algorithm
>>25382979digitakt dub algorithm
>>25382979Is this even worth reading if it won’t be finished? Whats the point of making such a grand epic series only to leave it on a cliffhanger because you’re too old and fat to pick up a pen again?
>>25384885Your posts are so insecure its truly sad. Believe me when I say I feel bad for ya son. You are 100% a fuckin loser irl
>>25385290some parts are so good even without resolution, but most POVs aren't and don't go anywhere or impact anythingIf you want a light experience, you only read:>Eddard>Tyrion>Catelyn>JaimeThose are most central to the war of the Five KingsThere is no point in about Sam and Jon in the fall, or Dany in Essos, or Brienne doing shit in Riverllands
>>25384036JON IS THE TRUE HEIR TO THE THRONELOLUMAD?
>>25382979He should have just done a trilogy and been done with it.That being said, if we are strictly talking about this first book: holy shit. It’s really good. Honestly such a good read. I think creativity tends to peak when people are young, before they lose the spark and the edge and their art inevitably turns into a caricature of what it was at its peak
>>25382979
>>253829792
>>25386025>>25386027go fuck your dishwasher clanker
>>25382979I will forever hate the TV for contaminating what the characters looked like in my mind. Arya, Sansa, Jon, all terrible casting.
>>25386025>>25386027
>>25386025>>25386027This is like a parody of a parody of a parody. It's worthless slop regardless of your intention.
>>25386027>>25386025Weirdest shit I've ever seen. I have literally no fucking idea what it's trying to convey
>>25386291Did you read the books first? I watched the show before reading the books and I picture most of them as their character actors, except jeoffry who I picture as having curly hair for some reason
>>25382996Fourth one is his best work even if it doesn't advance the plot much.>>25386016Bruh he was like 50 when he wrote Game of Thrones.
>>25382979never dared to start it after watching the show, i took on stormlight instead, since I was after kinoslop
On an adjacent note, does anyone else find Essos generally a far more interesting setting?Half of my motivation for the setting I'm currently writing in is rooted in the blue balls George gave me by constantly teasing the free cities and Ghis, only to go back to his faggy Westerosi bullshit.I'd have a much different opinion if the story sprawled less and stayed focused on actually interesting Westerosi people and events but so much of it is just hot air.
>>25382979I always found this book to be the best one. It felt like George was at his prime writing it, it feels so well-paced compared to the rest of his books.
>>25386291they fucking nailed stannis though, you gotta admit that
>>25386453you now understand that confucius would have made tyrion dig a canal before listening to his quips and grrms concept of aragorns tax policy was just another pornographic conceit
>>25386701I fully agree. There are good parts in other books, but GoT was the cleanest.>>25387230Tywin, Stannis, Cersei, and Varys in GoT and Viserys in HotD are some of the best adaptations of any characters book to screen period.
>>25382979If i didn't care for book one is there any reason to read book 2? Rewatching GOT and cannot help but think there has never been a show like it and really enjoy it up to season 6. I didn't dislike book 1 but i don't remember feeling like there was anything special or compelling me to pick up book 2, but that was a while ago and was drinking a lot.Trying to get back into reading and find that fantasy, especially something already familiar is easier to get me turning pages than certain classics. Something comforting about familiar but different. Just picked up dune 3 after having read book 1 and 2 years ago and really enjoying it. Kinda hated book 2.
>>25382996Feast has some of the best character moments in the entire series
>>25386589He was 42, which I suppose is the crossroads of youthful vigor and aged wisdom. Any older and, yes, I would concede your point (which might explain why the first three are indeed considered the best)
>>25386589>Fourth one is his best work
>>25387773>He was 42, which I suppose is the crossroads of youthful vigor and aged wisdom.I don't know, I think your 50's are the best years of a man's life. I remember Schopenhauer using the metaphor of the decades of your life, similar to the planets in our solar system. This video explains it well:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD0sKFneq2U
>>25387773He was 47 (month away from 48) when it was published. Of course he started it when he was younger but we know that even the first book changed a lot on the way.>>25387783It's the one that's real literature and not just genre slop.
