>>25384930Lots of Kaels and Elaras and Hawthornes adventuring these days
>>25384930>>25385239redpill me on this, are these the first fantasy names AI reaches for?
The reason you keep seeing Kael and Elara in ai slop is because it's super incestuous. There's more ai slop for it to train on than human made slop since humans take longer and they have them being trained on ai chats and gens. It's the serpent eating it's own tail.
>>25385255Where's the sense in using AI gens to train AI? It's like teaching babies to talk by playing back their own gugu-gaga at them
>>25385281AI needs more training data but they used all the data>It's not an ideal situation thoughWow you should go and tell the researchers that, huge breakthrough
>>25385281ai just scrapes data and hardly any ai-generated content is flagged as suchmanually curating a dataset that you are 100% sure was only written by humans is more work than simply dumping everything into its training data
>>25385255Even the early models before it broke mainstream generated Kael and Elara a lot
>>25385294It's because back in the 2010s some amateur authors were using them in indie fantasy fiction. Then the ai that AI Dungeons was using picked up on that. Then ai started training on the outputs of that and so on.
>>25385281What is gugu-gaga?
>>25385299Early gpt models were trained on Ai dungeon output? Feels like a source just trust me bro situation. There was plenty of real data left to train on back then
>>25385305For specifically making fantasy slop yeah. They accidentally scraped stuff off of reddit (r/aidungeon) and chooseyourstory.com.It's also why it writes like a blog poster. It scraped all the blogs and buzzfeed articles. Then people used ai to make those slop sites that aggregate information and then ai trains on the slop sites.
>>25385282>>25385284Maybe the problem isn't the lack of data but that the data is trash and ineffectively used!

>>25385604I'd rather a bad story written by a man than a boring story written by a machine. The former can be fixed, the latter has nothing worth fixing.
>>25385617>>25385624specifically my draft feels like a human writer trying to imitate aior it's like i'm looking at what ai deems "good writing" and im trying and failing to imitate itit is a boring story written by a man
>>25385661Boring stories written by men are very difficult to really be boring. At minimum, you're prying into the writer's brain. AI doesn't have a brain, it's autocorrect with a giant context pool and thus it can't really think the way a person does (even the models with "thinking" just runs itself recursively a few times then summarizes those recursions). This book is terribly boring, terribly written, and I always recommend people read it so you can understand how batshit insane the author is.
Putting the words on paper is so difficult anons... it's like pulling teeth out with plastic spoons. I have a lot of ideas but my mind goes at a complete blank when converting them onto a page.Is it because I just need to read more? Would that help?
>>25385675no you just need some discipline you little bitch
>>25385675Reading a bit more can help, but the big thing of actually doing anything is stopping yourself from relying on your motivation to outgrow your anxiety (or depression, or whatever other emotion is holding you back) and instead enforce a discipline that always outweighs your hang-ups.
>>25385682Why are you so mean to me...>>25385692> instead enforce a discipline that always outweighs your hang-ups.So, what you're saying is to force myself into actually writing instead of giving up too early if my mood is not the best is what you are saying? >>25385710>I shouldn't rely purely on my motivation?yepthis is how everything is madeno creative work is seen to completion out of sheer persistent desire for the process alone
>>25385710Correct. Make it. Just fucking make it, doesn't matter if it's good or bad, follow the arbitrary steps. When you get to what you think is a good stopping point, then congratulations, you've written your first draft. >>25385751what does worth reading even mean? even most classics arent worth reading according to some, get out of here with that pseud nonsense
To expand on what was already said, motivation is only temporary, it's impossible to stay motivated all the time. It's like a little buff you can use to get a boost of productivity or to get through procrastination and anxiety etc but it doesn't last.Only discipline can overcome these things long term and produce anything. Just look at anything around you, old historical buildings, high-rise condos. All of it was built off of discipline. If architects and workers had to rely on only motivation nothing would ever get built. A soldier even during war time has to go through menial tasks and crushing boredom for over 99% of the time they're in uniform. It's all discipline, motivation comes in for the less than 1% when their officer gives them a pep talk before something is about to happen. If you want to achieve anything you have to do work even when you don't want to, there is no cheat. I wish I knew this stuff when I was younger but all the commonly available advise was still based around motivation and "life-hacks" bullshit back then.

>>25386357I don't think it's only gamers. It's just people that like seeing the progression. Litrpg just makes it straightforward to write. It's like training wheels for people that can't make a good hard power system that's actually just part of the setting. You say there's no need for hard systems but they actually make the stories more immersive, every single story with an asspull magic system or a litrpg system could be improved by being a Brandon Sanderson hard system instead.Anyway litrpg is actually shrinking in it's share of the scene without actually growing smaller in absolute numbers. Non-litrp progression seems to be getting more popular mostly thanks to the influence of cultivation funny enough.

Does anyone do the Royal Road contests? Is it remotely worth it?On a separate note, does any successful author have a "What to expect" in their synopsis? Usually when I see that it makes me think that the story may be webnovel tier slop.
>>25386861I did the Writathon the other month. I was late so I didn't get the big benefit (Going up on the first round of first list of early winners) but a month of premium was enough to convince me to drop $60 for a year.

He made a funny reddit post years back that floated around a little bit about some voice actor wanting to charge him lots more money like midway through one of his book series.I tried to read two or three series by this guy but it was very hit or miss, and I missed too often.
>>25386861>On a separate note, does any successful author have a "What to expect" in their synopsis?I thought that was the most retarded shit ever. Are people not aware what a premise is? Are you supposed to advertise being predictable and having no twists as positive?

>>25386951Many readers are too lazy and retarded to read the synopsis. Many authors suck at telling what their story is about. You're meant to choose the meme slogans that are trendy right now to market effectively.

>>25387200How old were you when you wrote the work that makes you want to kill yourself?
>>25387202The content is fine actually, the prose and writing style just ticks off the "hearing your own voice" cringe really hard. >>25387189Thanks for reading!
>>25386861>On a separate note, does any successful author have a "What to expect" in their synopsis?I don't think I've ever started reading a story because of what it says in "what to expect." I have avoided picking up a bunch of stories because of what they wrote in "what to expect.""No harem" written out is a bit of a red flag for me. I don't particularly care whether there's a harem relationship in a story, but stories that feel the need to point it out are often unsatisfying.

>>25387308The FMC crowd doesn't like male wish fulfillment? I refuse to believe that!
>>25387290It is. Lots of low ratings and poor reviews are basically saying "this isn't what I expected/wanted and now I've wasted some of my time and now I'm going to punish the author for that."Because of how the rating system works, bad ratings weigh more than good ratings so putting a very detailed synopsis and "what to expect" section, while gauche, is a good idea. Better to avoid 20 0.5 star ratings than to retain a few pseuds actually checking Royal Road for literature to read instead of just reading the classics.

>>25387341Usually they pick it up for the otherwise sane premise, and then drop it because of the harem tag, because harems are, without exception, badly written dogshit by people who have never held hands with a woman
>>25387344Seethe more, tranny.
I recently came across what appeared to be a competently written harem story. The author had made a valiant effort to edit it into a coherent narrative, but some 20 chapters in, the constantly repeating phrases and patterns and other oddities made it clear that yep, I was reading untagged AIslop once again
>>25387087I improved (visibly and substantially) over the first few years but once you move past the beginner and intermediate stages, it gets a lot harder to see real progress even on the year to year time scale.I think getting published and working with an editor helped me see some real gains but that's just on a line level. What really matters is the story level and that's so hard to analyze
>>25387355So you reported it, right?
>>25387370Reporting would expect hard proof, otherwise the faggot mods will do nothing, and AI is almost impossible to prove conclusively. Why risk having it backfire on me? I just left a 0.5 rating and moved on. The story only had one other rating and that was 0.5 too
>>25387355>coherent narrative >repeated verbal ticsmoron that is the definition of human. AI is the exact reverse
>>25387389no moron that is a hallmark of AIIt loves using certain sentence structures to describe things and is very pattern based. Though you are right with the coherent narrative bit, but that can be fixed with editing
>>25387388>I just left a 0.5 rating and moved on. The story only had one other rating and that was 0.5 toobrutalthough i'd question how accurate your spidey-senses were on AI if you only noticed 20 chapters in, are you sure it wasn't just the author's preference for certain sentence constructions?

>>25387445which part do you contest: that AI is bad at coherent narratives or that amateur authors repeat phrases and have strange writing quirks?
Gonna shift my attention from my main WN to try out the honeyview writing contest. I connect with some of the past winners at AX recently and it seemed like something fun to do for a side project (only targeting 50K words anyways, could have that done and polished within a few weeks if I tried). There is one issue though, since it is a writing contest it's divided up into categories and the only options were something to do with a heroine (immediately skipped over since >FeMC) and "tragic hero", which I've never written before. My WNs have tragic elements but I've never done a story that is a pure tragedy. My outline is mostly coming along fine but usually I kind of cheat in writing by doing light side adventures that are purely character focused, which isn't really fitting a tragic story type. I'm also worried I don't have enough DARKNESS in my outline so far, considering taking stuff from my old fanfic days to liven it up in that regard. The very very basic outline is just>PrologueThe lead (a boy named Tip) tries to save his friend (a girl named Dorothy) from being possessed, only for her to die during the conflict. >Act 1Tip is captured and imprisoned, but is able to escape thanks to the efforts of an elusive banker (a young man named Milligan), who gives him Dorothy's diary, revealing she was possessed by an old shaman named Dahlia, who lives off the continent awaiting the demon lord's revival. Tip begins to escape the continent, being ruthlessly pursued by an elite guardsmen (a man named Jean). >Act 2Mostly just a blank in my outline currently, mainly because what I would normally put in here doesn't seem to befit a 'tragic storyline'.All I have are some ideas like Tip destroying a prophecy that said he would be a hero, and Jean dying.>Act 3Tip's confrontation with Dahlia wherein both die. Throughout the narrative Tip had been utilizing his own life to improve his magic enhancements, and this results in his death.>EpilogueThe real hero sees Tip's corpse and assumes it to be another demon. That or Tip and Dorothy together in death. I was thinking maybe I could make Jean an asshole twin brother, and Tip's family wants to ensure his downfall to 'wipe the stain off the family name', but I also like how small I've envisioned the cast to be (and the fact that I'm not using these lame tropes). It's written this way so, if it works out, I can pair it up with my ongoing WN (the hero in the epilogue would just be the hero from my main WN, but I wouldn't use his name in this competition. Everyone except Milligan is purely original to this story, and Milligan will just be revealed to have setup Dorothy and Tip's confrontation to eliminate her to make that seem like a complete plotline.tl;dr advice on writing tragedy in shlocky WNs?
>>25387449The coherence of the narrative depends mostly on the prompt (and the LLM used). If you generate chapter by chapter with detailed prompts, it's not that hard to get a logical result. And no, I've never read an organic work, amateur or professional, who sounded like a clanker. Even bad writers have a certain rhythm in their expression.
>>25387425yea that's fair enoughwere they not there in earlier chapters, or were you too dumb or invested to notice?another few things to calibrate your AI senses:>too X, too Y/something X, something Y/an X, a Y (these can be broken up with any punctuation, not just commas)>exhausting personification, to such an extent that makes it seem like the AI can't tell what is an inert object and what is a living character>[adjective 1], [adjective 2] [noun] - especially when one of the adjectives doesn't fit the noun it's describing or competes with the other adjective>relying on descriptions of what things aren't rather than what they are due to AI not wanting to risk being "wrong" (it's easier and correct-er to describe a pencil as "not an elephant, not a kitchen, not a fish" etc than to describe its actual qualities)>seriously it begs repeating the fucking personification of objects in the scene at a frequency that no human author would ever attempt
>>25387463Don't get too stuck on the "tragedy" word. The contest gives "Sentenced to be a Hero" as an example of what they're looking for. You should watch the anime or read the LN if you need ideas. It's not some misery porn. The point is that the MC starts from the rock bottom and fights his way to greatness. Sure, there are tragic elements, but it still has this sort of upbeat undertone of turning grim situations around and comedy in it.
>>25387435>evidenceLOL
>>25387463the fact they are running their contest for such a wildly unpopular WN tag like tragedy is pretty hilariouswhy is this thread obsessed with honeyfeed? they say they MIGHT get you published in JP, but has it even happened? which story?it's not outright a scam (probably) but it is a retarded path to pursue

I'm about to start RI, what am I in for my /wng/ bros?
>>25387476Yeah but I don't want to start some ongoing project for a writing contest, so I think it's fitting to give this story a definitive ending with every character of note dying, and it being framed as "tragic hero" makes that work.I'll probably give that show a watch to see what it's about.>>25387480It's simply because they offer money upfront for about four or so people who enter I think? It's probably stiff competition, but I see it as a win. They don't want much in word count and at worst, I'll be writing something I can just throw out so it doesn't matter to me. To other people though it's probably the fantasy of getting any anime (which they seem to promise to the first place winner in every contest). I'd love to get an anime for my WN but I am under no delusion that would actually happen. If it does happen though, I'd personally beg for Gohands to do it.

>>25387485I find AI prose pretty grating.I've used AI to ERP on occasion and it mostly sucked. The writing style just always annoys me.Another big issue is that one person I work with is constantly watching AI generated videos on every topic possible, so I hear AI writing all the time and it all sounds the same. It's just so samey in a way that no human could ever be. Even someone like Nisio Isin who literally repeats whole sections of chapters and goes on and on about a singular part of an event for whole paragraphs (plural) isn't as boring and samey as AI can be (or rather, is, consistently).I'm sure you could force AI to not sound fucking lame and retarded all the time, but at that point just write yourself. Anyone can write, you can write something that is 90% just dialogue and people will like it.
>>25387087First started serializing my first ever public work in 2020, stopped writing altogether by 2023–24 and started getting back into writing in 2025 with a brief short story then I stopped writing for quite some time until january this year when I began to launch my first real long-form fic since the 2020–23 fic. >>25387489I planned to repurpose an old draft for the contest, but cutting the story into chapters of just 1-1,5k words and ending each in some kind of hook is literally impossible no matter what I try. Nothing can happen in so few words. The story gets fucking choppy and sounds like,>Chapter 1>Hi, my name is Tom, I'm twenty and live in New Jersey and suddenly dinosaurs broke into my room through the window->Chapter 2>I began to wrestle with a velociraptor, dodging its claws left and right.>Then the firefighters burst in through the door and->Chapter 3>The fireman sprayed the raptor with his hose and sent it running.>"Are you okay, son? Let me get you out of here OH shit, the truck's got a flat tire!">Chapter 4...After rewriting the first chapter 7-8 times by now to make it tighter, I'm actually starting to think it's too good to submit there
I'm giving Shadow Slave a shot and Jesus Christ that first arc droned on for way too fucking long. The ending was also probably the singular most unsatisfying shit I've ever read.Nephis learning his true name off screen is fucking absurd for an arc that nearly hit 400,000 words. Not to mention him not even fucking killing Cassia who ALSO knows his greatest secret is fucking ridiculous. The sounds of hand of the author yanking the chains on the plot are deafening.

>>25387605the things I am describing are only indicative of AI in terms of overuse, if you do it but have an awareness for "wait, I just did this" then you're fineAI really struggles to stop itself from the sentence-level AI-isms because it only weighs the probability of one token at a time, which means it's good at stopping itself from overusing words, but it doesn't have the ear for when it's overusing techniquesrelated, another tell of AI is that it penalises the re-use of words in its generation, so it will tie itself in knots trying to describe a recurring term in increasingly elaborate ways (although this is most often just an example of an insecure author rather than AI)

Think of all those tropey stories where the protag gets backstabbed at the beginning, acts moody for a bit, and then it's just a regular powerfantasy. Obviously you can vary on the tragic to empowering ratio, but the overall theme of the contest is still Heroic Fantasy.I myself am writing one where the protagonist gets his body stolen by the party mascot and banished for hundreds of years.

Although, if you ask me, it's like finding a worm in an apple. Once you see it you'd be foolish to keep eating. I don't care if only one chapter is AI or if 5% of the story is AI. >>25386951As someone who caved after about 9 months of posting, I'll give you my reason for doing this. Some readers are fucking retarded. Then they get mad at you because their own made up version of the story didn't come into being. Then they often drop a low rating or leave negative comments that mislead and drives away others.Since putting a what to expect in my synopsis, this kind of retardation outright stopped. >the writing according to reviews and comments:"Your writing is so beautiful, author. Every other sentence is like a poem, full of layered meanings and wisdom. You are truly gifted.""You have such a rich voice!""Every chapter is riddled with metaphor, and she is either a musician or is exceptionally gifted for each line of this book has a cadence that reads so beautifully.">the writing itself:The breeze danced through the leaves, and the world smelled like soil, citrus, and something faintly metallic. I turned the page of my book. I didn't need to read it to know it was about stars.I just remembered. Then I felt it again.A sound, but not a sound. More like a thought someone whispered too close to my ear. It came from beyond the gate. The Perennial Forest. It never truly called. But it hummed. It waited.I'd never gone in. Not once. Not even a toe past the gate. The stories said people who entered never came back. Or came back... changed. And that wasn't a metaphor. They came back wrong. Crooked. Hollow. Smiling with too many teeth.Still, the forest whispered sometimes. Just enough to make me wonder. But I didn't go. Because I took things seriously. When they say "stay out," I stay out. When someone tells you there's danger in the dark, you don't grab a candle and start a parade. You sit down. You wait. And you listen harder. Are readers on this website retarded or is this botted engagement?

>enjoy worldbuilding>could literally spend weeks writing histories of how every city and kingdom was founded>can't even write a 10,000-word short story about itI think the issue is I'm lazy, and worldbuilding is easy; anyone can do it. But writing even a bad story requires work, actually, like coming up with a theme, crafting good-flowing prose, and plotting out character arcs.
>>25389050Worldbuilding, no matter how autistic, is fundamentally freeform. Writing a narrative chains you to that narrative.
>>25389050Worldbuild for me, anon, I hate that shit
>>25389067How can you hate it?But I can worldbuild for you if you tell me an outline of your story.
>>25389074I just struggle to believe anyone actually cares about the details. I only make up the bare minimum of lore needed to support the plot, and can't even bring myself to make separate notes of it for all the cringe. But it's fine. I don't seriously want to waste your time with this. I know personal stuff is always more interesting than what others do
>>25389099>I just struggle to believe anyone actually cares about the detailsnon-reader?lore dumps and poorly done exposition are grating but well written settings can be enrapturing
>>25389108Yeah, sure, but who has that well written setting?
>Want to do some sort of clever narrative motifing referencing a major character from a historical poem>Don't want it to be too literal, especially since it's a contemporary setting and thus their name isn't common at all anymore, try to look up how the name is formatted in other languages for anything that might look less apparent and more subtle>"Nameus," "Nameino," "Naym," "Nameo"
