On my reading, we have the church father as a child led astray by the clarity of "vision" (intellect) of the literati. Metaphorically, that same eagle-eyed clarity is used by the church to cleanse themselves of edifice defiling doves, doves which are actually symbols of innocence and the holy spirit. Meanwhile, the literati are too up their own ass to realize that, beneath their very noses, systems of oppression, capitalist meat grinders are torturing and killing political idealists.
