What books should I read to increase my vocabulary? I always find myself repeating certain words and phrases.
I especially want to learn more words to improve my prose as well.

Hart Crane

>leewarding
>undinal
>Samite
>diapason
>crocus
>consanguinity
>siroccos
>infrangible

that's from like five stanzas of "Voyages"

A tip: etymologies give greater insight into word meanings than definitions
A warning: setting out to increase vocabulary as an ends in itself is pretty foolish, you will end up peppering your sentences with five dollar words, sounding obnoxious, being poorly understood and deploying words incorrectly and distastefully. But if you just read read read read a lot and look up the words and their etymologies as you go you will gain a strong sense of when it is appropriate to use this or that word. Put simply a serious reader will have a powerful vocabulary, while a pillager of "vocabulary words" will have a ridiculous vocabulary.
