"Most educated" in modern america simply means "most brainwashed". Ayn Rand was right.

>>25399949You start admitting unqualified students for reasons other than academic excellence, and you start to see a decline in the average competency of the student body. Could anyone have foreseen this?

schools in progressive areas stopped giving out failing grades, stopped penalizing late work, and pretty much do anything they can to give everyone A's. universities love to recruit from ghetto schools to diversify the student body, which theyve done for a long time, but now its harder to distinguish bad students from good students. many of the unis have made SAT optional and those that havent the admissions consider them racially biased. black kids score worse on SAT so the SAT is racist, of course.
>>25400086SATs have been useless ever since they added the essay writing garbage which is completely subjective, it's like the college equivalent of an HR hag throwing out your resume for some bullshit
>>25399949Social Media needs to be banned at some point

>>25399998Elite universities being expensive, pay-to-play daycares for economic elites from across the globe are a consequence of Rand cultists occupying the highest levels of government for 50 years.Harvard grads aren't "le brainwashed dood", they're funneled into positions of power because of their degree from an elite university.Randism is the belief that it's desirable for elite institutions to be insular and for admissions be based on control of money rather than merit.
>>25400240>even when it's socialist central planning authoritarianism that recreated the nomenklatura spetsmag system of the USSR, it's ackshually the fault of capitalists for joining the socialist systemAmerican academia is overwhelmingly leftist
>>25400240Next time you make sweeping claims try actually being familiar with the work of the person you are talking about. nigger.
>>25400240aren't there more straight-up marxists in leadership and teaching positions in american (and probably all other) universities than there are even the most milquetoast "conservatives" never mind actual right-wingers?
>>25400274A survey recently showed that in American universities (not sure Ivy only or what other criteria), only the engineering and IT departments were about 50% self-admitted conservative. All other departments were majority blue, reaching 99% in the arts, languages and gender studies, of course.
>>25399949School kills the enjoyment of learning anything. My love for reading started in middle school when I wanted to win a raffle at my local library. One book for one ticket. I didn't win that chocolate fountain but I did win in gaining knowledge.
>>25400297Making kids attend more than a couple of days of school a week is unironically a crime against humanity.
>>25400301How
>>25400274Individual beliefs of teaching faculty are irrelevant when universities operate like hedge funds. Admissions become based on growing the university's endowment. Legacy admissions and foreign elites bring in more money than middle class prodigies, so the curriculum adjusts to maximize the admissions and get degrees in their hands regardless of merit.>>25400256Randism is the belief that those who can afford better hospitals, roads, police, firefighters etc. should get them. If John Galt wants to pay harvard $200,000 to get his shitbag kid a degree, he should be able to.
>>25400297You're probably just stupid. A lot of people do fine with schooling.
>>25399949I agree. There should be a more efficient way to intake knowledge other than reading
>>25399989Only like 10% of students have a passion for what they study the rest of them are just doing it for the degree
>>25400311There's no useful purpose to it and it harms them? Forcing children to sit still in rows of desks literally damages their brains. The purpose of the modern school system is literally to crush children's spirits so that they become obedient and unimaginative. That is what it was designed to do.You need to know how to read/write and do math. That's it. You can do that in a few hours a week. I could read before I started school, without needing to be actively taught it, just from having books read to me by my parents, so even that is probably too much if your parents care about you. I learned English by playing video games. Even a lot of math progress is just brain development. You can't teach math to kids whose brains haven't matured enough yet, so you will see things like some kids lagging behind for months before their brains mature and then they will catch up on months of "teaching" instantly, so all those months were just wasted time spent on that kid.Never mind other things, like how school teaches you that you're worthless by having you do worthless tasks for no reason (other than your teacher's praise), or the massive opportunity cost of having children doing this for years or indeed decades of their lives rather than having them do something useful that gives them meaning and purpose and, oh I don't know, money. Imagine spending several days a week both making money as a kid AND learning how to be a worthwhile person at the same time, instead of just being a pure burden, which can't just be played off as irrelevant - as if children aren't insightful enough to intuitively internalize this fact. There are countless reasons why modern schooling should be a crime.
Let's parse the silliness of this >>25400280First off, most people in academia would not simplify the world into a binary of conservative and liberal. Unless you are talking about how someone votes, it is very difficult to take the panoply of the human condition and reduce it to a binary.Secondly, politics changes with condition. The condition of academia over the last 15 years supports voting for Democrats, not Republicans, who cut funding to schools. If you are looking to save your job, you might want to vote accordingly. But more importantly is the temperament of those that enter STEM fields and those that enter the humanities. Those in STEM want singular static answers to specific questions for specific known needs that determine those questions: an almost perfect definition of a conservative, but also for those who, by life’s experience, have had enough of the vagaries of life, and want set answers. Those in the humanities want to explore the dynamic, and search for new things to ask questions about: a pretty good definition of a liberal, but also attracts those that hate the status quo so much, they are willing to listen to any heterodox solution, even if historically it failed. So we go back to the two statements at the beginning, and to why equivocating conservative or liberal voter with conservative or liberal mindset makes your study silly: A communist can be an authoritarian as a reaction to the authorities that oppressed them; while a conservative can simply be someone who prefers to work with things known to function properly, such as a liberal society. These people may vote opposite of their temperament.
>>25400336>Forcing children to sit still in rows of desks literally damages their brains. Maybe they should have their desks in columns instead of rows
>>25400339These studies are usually self-reports, and give results like self-reported marxists outnumbering self-reported moderate conservatives. Leftists probably outnumber actual rightists in universities by a thousand to one these days. Which obviously means that all the more "soft" disciplines (where, ironically, an even distribution is *most* important) are going to be worthless, since they're blind to their own biases and the fields are not rigorous enough to correct for it.It's not coincidence that these character traits are as consistently present among the entire global population as they are; they've evolved to exist in compliment to each other. Remove half of the dynamic and you just get madness, i.e., modern academia.
>>25400280>being in a liberal department>not saying you're liberal even anonymouslyit's suicide. these people quite literally want you dead or ruined for life if you're not liberal and they will do anyhing to make it happenit's like painting a target on your head
academics are leftists for two reasons:1) they live in incredibly insulated worlds. they probably will never have to interact with the 95th percentile black person.2) hyperspecialization means they have no perspective or deep thinking about matters outside of their niche.

>>25400319You're on a board called Literature and this is your level of reading comprehension... I never said or even implied I did badly in school (I was very average ftr) just that it takes away the fun of learning. A lot of the time my motivation needed to come from outside sources. School made even things I wanted to learn about boring, like I was just going through the motions. Case in point, discovering a love of reading completely separated from a classroom.

When I publish, I reference 20th century material which I trust. Most of the papers of the past 2 decades are either biased or lack critical reasoning.
>>25399949I'm sorry, this sort of shit activates my berserk button. Professors "arbitrarily withholding information" by making you read a fucking book? If I had a student who said that to me I'd arrange for them to be tied to a post and whipped. What the fuck is wrong with Zoomers? Jesus Christ.
>>25399949This is unsurprising. Ivory tower intellectuals are predisposed to think lived experience is useless and abstractions is sufficient to understand any material. (That's why the public hates intellectuals.) This is the same path as before, just dumber.
>>25400336You're right, John Dewey pointed all this out, but there's a caveat: when you make school practical, about work, you end up reinforcing social structures. "Oh, you're no good at math and your family is poor? Time to take shop classes!" Instead of education raising the public up and exposing them to higher civilization, it manufactures a narrative to justify existing class divisions. Undesirables are cooled out.
>>25400187Imagine being this retarded.
>the prussian model designed to create obedient passive cattle biological drones is falling apart in real time and nobody can stop itFucking finally.Seethe all you want luddites but the entire schooling process could easily be assigned to an AI agent that adapts to the level of competence and interest/motivation of each student, something that a stupid old meat bag will never be able to do (hence the one size fits all cirruculum), there's no shortage of information anyway.Schools should teach exclusively useful skills that people will use daily in their lives as well as promote creativity, soft skills, thinking outside the box and better social environments that promote growth.Classes chopped into equal-sized blocks are not effective, grades are also not effective (countless studies show that by simply removing the grades the performance improves because there's less stress about the outcomes and less mnemonic study which is the opposite of true understanding as you are only expected to show that you know something in that moment, which is why people just cram the day before or cheat and pass anyway), passive lessons with zero involvment from students are also not effective. It's 18th century mentality that can't be applied to the inevitable future of automation and we only keep it this way because the infrastructure is just too damn expensive to abbandon (despite the infinite cuts to education budget every year).Other countries like Finland are already experimenting with their education system because it simply can't continue on this path any longer, it doesn't work, it's inefficient and it's outdated by all standards.
>>25400497What does it say about your ignorance of board culture? Posting links for OPs is fucking cancer.
>>25400022Top American universities, particularly the ivies, have always been the birthright of this country's social elite, this is nothing new. The WASP aristocracy who funneled their children from boarding schools to Yale weren't any more meritocratic than the Hollywood nouveau riche are today. At least in the past they weren't piping in ethnic mafias and the ghetto class in order to flood academia with ideological sleeper agents. They weaponized the ivory tower so they could further obfuscate the truth and destabilize our society. The common man has noticed and become resentful, so now they will throw out the baby with the bathwater.
