Can someone redpill me on the current state of libraries in America?I haven't been to one since I was a childAre they worth stopping by in 2026?
>>25400948it's bad. it's so bad. homeless old retards jacking off in public using public computers bad.
>>25400948University libraries are still mostly ok. Although, more and more, physical copies of books are being moved to storage centers where they can only be retrieved by request, and the library building is nothing but a “study space” for zoomers to scroll between classes. For public libraries, unfortunately, >>25400954 is completely accurate.
>>25400954That's not a very nice way to describe the people putting on Drag Queen Story Hour.
>>25401055those are bad but not as bad as the hobos literly jackin it to porn in public
>>25400948I went to one to print stuff and there was homeless people everywhere nodding off on fentanyl. in the front display all books were about gay children and trans children and all workers were 350lbs and looked liked shit. the had some programs there to sponsor LGBT africans overseas
>>25400948When I studied at my local library (before it was renovated into a modern styled library) there was always this fat, old southeastern european man who used a rope as a belt and lived in a minivan in the parking lot
>>25400948They vary a lot but I've been in around 20 libraries in Washington, Connecticut, and New Hampshire over the last few years and they've all been good to excellentDepending on your library there's a good chance they do way more than books. In the last year my library finally started library of things and it's been so fucking good. Two years ago they started lending games, consoles, and expensive tech like 3D printers and projectors.Don't listen to the people who sob about the homeless, they're almost surely just parroting their favorite grifter-youtuber. Those problems exist but it's not at all at the scale they want you to think. If you can't bear to look at a dirty homeless guy catching sleep in a chair then you're weak and your bloodline is mostly water.
>>25401101>I've been in around 20 libraries in Washington, Connecticut, and New Hampshire over the last few years and they've all been good to excellentWhite majority areas tend to be like that.
>>25401101>I've been in around 20 libraries in Washington, Connecticut, and New Hampshire
>>25401101I was with you until that last sentence. Wanting a clean library is understandable.
Do you guys all live in niggertown or something? My libraries have zero homeless people. I thought it was a meme until I went to one in a shitty depressed town and it had bums hanging out front and signs in the bathroom saying you couldn't bathe in the toilet stalls.
>>25401173look at richie rich over here
>>25401104You think Washington is white majority? lol. The PNW has an enormous homeless problem because the climate is mild and it's literally the end of the line.NH is white as shit but has an enormous meth and heroin problem, their bums are dangerous. Also their libraries get very little state funding and thus tend to be tiny and understaffed. Still were great.>>25401110They aren't dirty like that one character from The Peanuts, anon. People just don't like looking at them because it makes them feel *spiritually* dirty, and we all know why that is.>>25401173Nah, like I said above it's mostly the occasional news story that goes national that in turn gets picked up by influencers and then people convince themselves it literally happened to them.
>>25401197you're just projecting the fact that you're chronically online onto everybody else. i've never seen any video about people talking about this and i've seen most of what everybody has said with my own two eyes.also i'll add that they heavily prioritize genre slop and ya so the people who do actually check out books are still retarded. they had some pictures up of what the library used to look like and after seeing those and reading a book they had of speeches from the opening ceremony of the library i was really upset.
>>25400948>soulless corporate office vibe>mostly james patterson and the latest steven pinker neolib popsci slopaganda>children's section is two thirds of the floor space>full of coughing sick phlegmy homeless people>full of niggers>teens screaming at the top of their lungsIt's not a place to read, write, study, or even to get books from. At this point it's nothing more than a free, no questions asked building that you can spend all day in for heat in the winter and ac in the summer, that's it.
>>25401101>Those problems exist but it's not at all at the scale they want you to think.Yes, they are. I go to my library once a week. It's grim and exactly like they and >>25401087 saidalso this >>25401091 is extremely uninteresting
>>25401173Great, you live in a tiny white affluent enclave. I would think you'd have figured this out by now. It's a rare situation and disappearing fast.
>order books online>pick them up and leave>put books in dropboxI never got why people complain about libraries when you hardly have to even step foot in them to take books out
They are good. The homeless situation is greatly exaggerated (yeah they exist and are at the library, no public indecency is not common).
>>25401351exactly. I place my holds on their website and pick them up at the entrance when I drop off my old ones. My library system has no fees either so there's never a downside. 81 branches in the city and one of them is a 15 minute walk from me. It's free books and extremely convenient as long as you can wait a few weeks max for your hold to be ready.

>>25401566>I'm gonna use words randomly with no regard for their meaning!cancer
>>25400948I've been going to my local one ever since I quit my job to study full time and prep for grad school. Its good, but I live in a rich white and conservative area. I was honestly surprised by how active it was. Mostly olds and women coming in to check out slop fiction, read the newspaper, print, whatever. Also lots of after-school tutors use the space to teach. Lots of kids programs etc, so its unfortunately pretty loud but I can't really get mad since in my view they're the ones who are keeping the space alive.I used to work at my university library over the night-shift and yeah there would be homeless that came in to try to sleep, but they were almost always run off by the campus police. Usually I was able to get a quiet carrel in a corner and watch porn.
>>25400948My had a pretty cool T. rex skeleton and is pretty large so I like it. Due to it being open it’s fairly loud so if you want silent reading you gotta book a study room or sit in the specific adult area which only really has office chairs so it’s not as comfy. Its also crowded as fuck most of the time especially now that it’s summer but honestly I’m pretty happy to see a bunch of kids since that means they’re actually reading and not brainrotting on an iPad.
I've been to several branches of the New York Public Library. The main historical branch is absolutely gorgeous and you definitely can find a great place to post up but it's mostly a crowded tourist destination. The main library down the block is alright: seven floors or so, circulating collection, kind of confusing to get around in and always crowded, but a fine place to spend the afternoon. Other branches in Manhattan can be quite cozy (especially the original Carnegie branches) but tiny and still crowded, I'd just go in to pick up and drop off really. Yes there are homeless, sometimes they smell bad so you have to move, otherwise I don't see the problem.
I was in Saratoga recently and stopped by their library. It was nice and quiet. Looked at a comic based on an Anthrax album. Very pleasant experience
>>25400948white people have turned them into noisy community centers where they can unleash their shitty kids and loud negro pets on each other
>>25400954>>25401026Sorry you live in a shit cityLibraries are still cool and comfy where I am. I'm gonna go to the main one tomorrow and find a PKD book
>>25402567>If I don't understand a sentence, then it means that it's made up of random words with the meaning I assigned to them!Newfag detected. Lurk moar.
>cretin can't be bothered to actually go inside a library and has to ask his surrogate online friend group to "redpill" him about it>to which the other cretins who never go outside dogpile replying with imagined fear porn they read online>not even realizing they come off as incredible idiots for not even being able to write a letter complaining about these supposed issues (it won't do any good, the system is against them, the West is falling)Basically Xitter and all Indians at this point.
>>25403501>not even realizing they come off as incredible idiots for not even being able to write a letter complaining about these supposed issueswut? you think inner city libraries are gonna start kicking out the homeless and the "youth" because some nerd wrote a letter?
>>25403501deranged lunatic
>>25403094update: got Ubik
>>25403501This.And my local library is awesome.
>>25403094>>25403948>shit cityYes anon this is the price I pay for living in a college town and having access to the university library
