Not at anyone's expense, unless they violate this principle.

How can I Sademaxx? I am currently living a life where I am very unhappy despite philosophically believing that maximizing my own pleasure is all that matters.
>>
>>25402396
It's not really a quick path to anything, it just provides realistic context.
>>
>>25402396
You're clearly not doing a good job at maximizing it.

Yes, that's why I'm asking for advice.

Can't give you any when I don't know what you're doing wrong. You've gotta give people more to work with.

xtians, suslims, juice, hindpoos and buddhiss want you to feel bad about this.

I'm working through school because getting a degree is what I've made everyone come to expect of me, but I hate it, but if I quit school I'd have to go back to working at some sort of entry-level job, which I also hate. So basically I can't do the things expected of me by my family or by economic realities without doing things that make me miserable. I want to just be a NEET and do nothing all day but I can't.

Literally just do stuff you enjoy.
And experiment to find new stuff you'll enjoy.

fpbp, and the only moral stance in this thread which can be logically affirmed.

Nihilist atheism is the denial of all other possibilities based on NOTHING. It is liberation into a moral vacuum with nothing to replace the architecture of what was abandoned. You don't just roam free and purposeless without first seeking the truth. Those that jump to this conclusion without any attempt at spirituality are ignorant, lazy, and often narcissistic. The road of the hedon leads to occult atrocities on par with the worst scum of humanity--rapists, murderers, traitors, and thieves. It is the religion of those who've give up, and it makes you into a sacrifice on the altar of deception.

>what I've made everyone come to expect of me
Who says you need to be consistent with that? A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. I'm going to have you answer these questions (here or elsewhere, it doesn't matter):

>What is the end I seek?
>Is it a worthy end?
>Is this open to deliberation? Is this genuinely within my power to influence?
>What are the possible means by which I can achieve this end?
>Which means best accord with ataraxia and aponia?
>What are the circumstances?
>Who is involved?
>What is appropriate here?
>What would excess look like?
>What would deficiency look like?
>What would the practically wise person notice here that I might be overlooking?
>What is my choice?
>What course of action do I resolve to take?
>What is the very next action within my power?
>>

Everyone already does this. Everyone has sex, does drugs, seeks freedom and pleasure.

>"I said to myself, 'Come now, I will make a test of pleasure; enjoy yourself.' But behold, this also was vanity. I said of laughter, 'It is mad,' and of pleasure, 'What use is it?' ... Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun."
>"There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Even in laughter the heart is sad, and the end of joy is grief."
>"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

i'd love to see you try

lol it's so sad when stupid people try to sound smart

Ok but Abraham already lived all those things when he made up his mind. His opinion would be different if he didn't experience it.

>>25402391
Nah, hurting others for your own pleasure is fair game.

The duty of fathers, teachers, and the elderly is to know and caution the young from making the same mistakes. You don’t need to eat a pile of perfumed feces to know that’s a bad idea. It’s better to listen to the experiences of the wise who know better than to go and recklessly transgress for yourself, otherwise you might end up making an irreparable mistake.

I think the message here is that you could get what you want, and it still wouldn't be enough. The proof is that the people who have it didn't feel better for long.
It's like when rich people say "money isn't everything" or good-looking people say "looks aren't everything". The knee-jerk reaction is to think these retards are either humble bragging or it's easy for them to say these things because they will still be rich and hot tomorrow, but maybe the truth is that being rich and hot isn't enough, isn't anything at all.

This must be measured against the likelihood of your father, teacher or elders being dullards, cowards or both.
My father was a phenomenal dumbass, and I've profited by rejecting everything he ever believed.

That's Solomon and Saint Paul

>>25402532
For they reasoned unsoundly, saying to themselves,
“Short and sorrowful is our life,
and there is no remedy when a life comes to its end,
and no one has been known to return from Hades.
2 For we were born by mere chance,
and hereafter we shall be as though we had never been,
for the breath in our nostrils is smoke,
and reason is a spark kindled by the beating of our hearts;
3 when it is extinguished, the body will turn to ashes,
and the spirit will dissolve like empty air.
4 Our name will be forgotten in time,
and no one will remember our works;
our life will pass away like the traces of a cloud
and be scattered like mist
that is chased by the rays of the sun
and overcome by its heat.
5 For our allotted time is the passing of a shadow,
and there is no return from our death,
because it is sealed up and no one turns back.

6 “Come, therefore, let us enjoy the good things that exist
and make use of the creation to the full as in youth.
7 Let us take our fill of costly wine and perfumes,
and let no flower of spring pass us by.
8 Let us crown ourselves with rosebuds before they wither.
9 Let no meadow be free from our revelry;
everywhere let us leave signs of enjoyment,
because this is our portion, and this our lot.
10 Let us oppress the righteous poor man;
let us not spare the widow
or regard the gray hairs of the aged.
11 But let our might be our law of right,
for what is weak proves itself to be useless.

12 “Let us lie in wait for the righteous man,
because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions;
he reproaches us for sins against the law
and accuses us of sins against our training.
13 He professes to have knowledge of God
and calls himself a child of the Lord.
14 He became to us a reproof of our thoughts;
the very sight of him is a burden to us,
15 because his manner of life is unlike that of others,
and his ways are strange.
16 We are considered by him as something base,
and he avoids our ways as unclean;
he calls the last end of the righteous happy
and boasts that God is his father.
17 Let us see if his words are true,
and let us test what will happen at the end of his life,
18 for if the righteous man is God’s child, he will help him
and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries.
19 Let us test him with insult and torture,
so that we may find out how reasonable he is
and make trial of his forbearance.
20 Let us condemn him to a shameful death,
for, according to what he says, he will be protected.”

>Error of the Wicked
21 Thus they reasoned, but they were led astray,
for their wickedness blinded them,
22 and they did not know the secret purposes of God,
nor hoped for the wages of holiness,
nor discerned the prize for blameless souls,
23 for God created us for incorruption
and made us in the image of his own eternity,[a]
24 but through an adversary’s[b] envy death entered the world,
and those who belong to his company experience it.

As Socrates says, nothing bad can happen to a good man.
