I'm currently on the 14th chapter of the novel, what the fuck is up with Holden and why is he good at nearly everything, why does he quote ancient Greek poetry to that one general and is he supposed to be an avatar of war or something, in the way of how Heraclitus viewed war? Clearly he has the stench of both Heraclitus and Nietzsche to him.I've also read in a few articles that gnosticism is something McCarthy's work is suffused with, why does he put Jacob Boehme in one of the opening quotes and how big an influence is he on him, is Blood Meridian written with his God being Deus Absconditus? The influence I'm inquiring about here is mainly on the more metaphysical, esoteric side of his work, he's clearly moreso influenced by Homer, the Bible and Melville's Moby Dick when it comes to the novel since those are obvious key influences, Faulkner and the modernists too. I've noticed a lot of infernal imagery in the novel, it's like every other paragraph McCarthy is gonna describe the landscape as something akin to Hell, he also likes to use void and abyss a lot since he uses those terms frequently in the novel, is that simply in relation to the landscape the characters are inhabiting, his image of the Wild West given all the slaughter and bloodshed present in it, or is he taking that and making a sort of argument that Earth has been deserted by God and has been left in Satan's clutches for him to run mad with? These are some of my initial thoughts that I'm going to flesh out an research later when diving into BM scholarship, just wanted to start a discussion regarding the novel because I'm loving it so far, but having said that, I think it serves a purpose in getting the discussion going and
why do retarded gaylords love this book and telling people that they've read it?
>>25402174Every time I see that cover I think it’s this edition of the Tain bo Cualigne. Which is fitting since Cormac ripped it off anyway.
>>25402174>BM scholarshipI wouldn't exactly call blood meridian retards scholars.
>>25402182Read the opening page.>>25402189It's a really fitting one! >>25402193Why do people reply with such low effort garbage? Thanks for the bump, I guess.
>>25402203>bumpOblivious retard.
>>25402189Penguin classics editions related to Ireland have some phenomenal cover art.
>>25402182He posted an interesting thread, you posted a completely worthless reply. Maybe you should go away.>>25402193You too.Fuck man, one guy tries to actually discuss literature on here and this is what he gets. You are genuinely the trash ruining this board and site. You know that right?
>>25402548>Fuck man, one guy tries to actually discuss literature on here and this is what he gets. Not OP but I've completely given up at this point and I don't see myself bothering with this site any longer. I'll have to look elsewhere for literary discussion and I guess I can come back here if I'm in the mood for women hate thread #38947932.Do any anons have suggestions for where to find real discussion, analysis, essays, etc.?
I am not currently reading this book and I do not want to discuss it.
>>25402564>>25402548If the thread is so interesting and you want real discussion why don’t you two reply to it? OP just vomited a bunch of random associations that everyone has heard a thousand times about Blood Meridian. It’s really not that deep. No, Blood Meridian isn’t “gnostic” redditors just think that that sounds cool. Cormac McCarthy has stated that he just lets his “subconscious” write novels. He isn’t thinking through some allegory or explicit theme, it’s just a vibe and atmosphere. He wrote it after moving to Texas and reading about some of its history in order to capture that.
>>25402174>is Blood Meridian written with his God being Deus Absconditus?I would say so. I don't think there's any substantial God-Devil dichotomy to be found in any of his works at least. There is however a lot of human ugliness contrasted with awe-inspiring nature, supposedly influenced by Robinson Jeffers "inhumanism" which I can totally see.
>>25402548It's funny how accurately stating that blood meridian enjoyers lack intellectual credibility makes you seethe.
>>25402189>>25402193Stop being butthurt all the time, whoreson
>>25402792Instead you are here posting nothingburger bullshit against posts that are actually trying to discuss a book. Way to prove your point, retarded manchild
>>25402891>meaningless rage postingIronic you would call them a manchild given Blood Meridian is one of the most manchild core books out there.
>>25403039>"le NTA"Stop projecting, retarded manchild
>>25402189How the fuck did McCarthy rip of the Tain? I've been hearing that story since I was four (actual Irishfag), and I've never thought of Blood Meridian being derivative at any point.
>>25403122>t. projector
>>25402548Any Blood Meridian thread being interesting when there is 5000 of them a year is high levels of cope.
>>25403183It's that beaner whoreson. He hasn't read any of these books to begin with.
>>25402548>He posted an interesting thread, you posted a completely worthless reply. Maybe you should go away.
>>25403350>still thinks theres only one mccarthy hater
So, what is he a judge of?>>25402588So why does he quote Jacob Boehme, why does the subtitle of the novel reference his work, Aurora, with a similar subtitle - Morning Redness in the Rising of the Sun? Why does he also point towards Boehme in The Road? Seems like those are conscious, rather than subconscious choices deliberately made by the author trying to pull the reader's attention towards it. It's not just redditors being cute, look up Petra Mundik's work on the topic.
>>25402588Why wouldn't the subconscious come up with allegories and themes ?
