I think I've adopted a skeptical attitude towards many things in life. For example, when it comes to philosophy, I hesitate to adopt very strong opinions and I'm often skeptical of philosophy itself, even if I do enjoy it and like reading books on it.When it comes to science, too, I've also become quite skeptical. It's not that I reject science or most established knowledge, I don't, but I'm quite skeptical of many scientific fields, knowing that, for instance, they are in any case the products of this society in this historical period in such conditions. Thus I can't help but see, for example, apparently miracle drugs like Ozempic through a skeptical lens. I know also that technological progress and changes in society will occur eventually.I'm also overwhelmed by the depth of philosophy, so when I see an author very confidently asserting something I can't help but remain skeptical, especially with new philosophers.Modern philosophy, both analytic philosophy and continental philosophy since the 1900s have rubbed me the wrong way and I seriously struggle to see, for example, Butler or Barthes seriously. Authors like Popper, Russel, Rawls, what I've read of them and by them I've generally had a negative reaction to also. There were many philosophers in Antiquity, Medieval times and in the Early Modern period who were forgotten and superseded, often for good reasons. We know Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza etc., but often don't spend much time with other obscure philosophers. I don't know what philosophers of the current age will be valued in 300 years.Unfortunately, when one raises doubts over dogmas, like that of critical theory, one is often met with hostility.
>>25402707Your attitude is healthy and wise, if anything it should be the default but sadly isn't.Nothing below Heaven (or above it for that matter) is above criticism or reproach, you should question everything, ESPECIALLY authority figures. But you should also have the humility to admit when you are wrong and someone else is right. If the other person presents an airtight argument that correlates with reality then you must yield and accept that they are correct, wether you like it or not.
>>25402707you should be skeptical of the value of philosophy. if it's just entertainment that's fine but taking it seriously is childish and silly.
>>25402707Skepticism comes in waves for individuals the same as it does in society. At least that's how I view it. Hope is what helps me "overcome" skepticism, and when the foundations of that hope are shaken, I become skeptical about everything once again. I agree with that other anon calling skepticism healthy and wise. I just think a return to confidence in knowledge is natural, though I don't know about healthy and wise.
>>25402707Everything should be questioned. Skepticism is the only thing saving you from this age of excessive useless retarding information
>>25402707That is healthy and wise. >>25403046>HopeWhat do you mean friend?
>>25403024Sure, if Plato is childish and silly to you, you're free to go back to the subsaharan shit hole you came from Kunta-Kinte.
>>25402707Glad you asked because no, that's brainwashing, and what you should be skeptical of is the "be skeptical" brainwashing. You should study critical thinking/the trivium, and you should have moral principles.https://archive.org/details/the-trivium-the-liberal-arts-of-logic-grammar-and-rhetoric-sister-miriam-joseph
