Fascism is a bizarre melding of the animus and anima that is neither masculine or feminine. Italian Fascism is the only real exception to this rule because it's a direct refutation of the feminine from a culture that is overwhelming matriarchal.
>>
>>25410183
Italy is matriarchal? This makes no sense at all. Germany is more matriarchal than italy, if anything.
>>
>>25410202
All Latin countries are soft-matriarchical as the mother is the most important person in an unpartnered man's life and when he partners that woman becomes his new mother. Brown men have a mother their entire life.
Legalistic equality like in Anglo-Germanic countries are not matriarchal. Atomisation is a hallmark of a non-matriarchial society.

The aesthetics of fascism were invented by D'Annunzio, and he was a lover of women and their bodies (he did like them sickly and decadent though, blame Huysmans and Flaubert.) Two thirds of his followers at Fiume were young women, and it was a continual orgy.

I don't think you can say fascism is a result of men getting the ick from women. It sprung forth from D. H. Lawrence-type vitalism combined with love of the war experience of WW1, wanting to replicate that frontline army life in society at large.

I think he's confused a German pathology for an ideological one.

Realistically any type of "unified theory of fascism" fails, especially the psychoanalytic ones.
Recall those ideas by Reich and Adorno about how fascism stems from Germanic Protestant sexual repression which creates the authoritarian personality. Meanwhile the entire ideology was invented by an Italian perv dandy who created a polyamorous-homosexual ethnostate and an Italian socialist womanizer from an anarchist family who was named after a Mexican Indigenous anti-imperialist.

I read the first 30 pages after seeing this thread and it's a collection of primary accounts from Freikorps and Nazis being distant and unpassionante about women. Very focused on the primary accounts, you're more or less reading a digest of boring chuds being bored with women. Later chapters hint at them getting the ick from women too. It does appear to mount a decent case against the psychological make up of German fascists, but of what value that is to a unified theory of fascism seems doubtful>>25410324

>Theweleit was born in Ebenrode, East Prussia (now Nesterov, Russia), the son of a railway company worker and a Jewish mother. He wrote the following about his father: "Above all he was a railroader, wholeheartedly, as he used to say, and then a human being. He was a rather good human being and a good fascist. His beatings which he gave away abundantly and brutally as it was usual in his time and with the best of intentions were the first lessons I received on fascism, a fact I only later fully discovered."[1]

I'm glad you pointed that out because it's not something people really understand. I sort of view the vitalism as about disdaining the comfortable life, not being content with the world, and viewing what you're doing as like being on a romantic quest, like a knight. Also there's a strong belief that duty and loyalty is important. It's interested in banners and victory parades and the pursuit of a greater idealistic purpose and there being an aura around it.

There was also a fascination with aviation. I read "A History of Fascism" by Stanley Payne and at the end of it, I was thinking, well they just wanted to do Starship Troopers really.

>Are we sure he's not just describing a national trait of the Germans to be stiff and unsensuous, and the Nazis were Germans, ergo...
Theweleit had a Freudian sort of theory and applied it to writings of Freikorps members, that a lot of what they were doing was a defense against anxiety resulting from fragile egos. He describes them as men who were psychologically "not yet completely born" ("noch nicht ganz geboren") and so they could only feel real in a uniform. I think it gets confusing because it might describe what a lot of these guys were like, but it wouldn't describe someone like D'Annunzio at all.

The uniforms are like a form of psychological armor (or "Körperpanzer," body-armor) to make themselves look hard. I think there might be something to that when looking at, say, Patriot Front members. Like what is the psychological experience of those guys when they get together in a group, put on masks and matching outfits, and then march here, march there, shout something in unison. In public. What does that *do* for them, or provide for them?

Roger Griffin also drew on Theweleit in a book on terrorist psychology. That could be someone like Anders Breivik and a lot of Muslim guys who become jihadis. You see these mass shooters take pics of themselves posing with weapons. They are often autistic loners, the effect can be similar to a weeb with a ponytail and a trenchcoat wielding a samurai sword in his backyard. But what exactly is going on in the head of a guy doing that. It's trying to do a legendary epic anime entrance, basically.

I really don't see it. Chinese propaganda tends to emphasize "happiness," economic development to live a "better life" or "good life." I think Mussolini would've hated it, he'd be like oh God they're turning people into vegetables:

Watch that video, the Chinese are saying, their goal is to build a happy, safe world and people can just be ordinary. Mussolini would say he emphatically does NOT believe that is the highest ideal that mankind should be pursuing. Chinese propaganda also talks about national rejuvenation, but that alone doesn't tell you much, and the leadership styles of Xi Jinping and Benito Mussolini are so completely different, opposites really. They can both be authoritarian but I really don't think this gets at the wellspring of what fascism was trying to pursue. It wasn't mere class collaboration, it was something greater and more monumental than that. The ideal Chinese citizen is pretty ordinary in the propaganda. They study, work hard, obey the law, contribute to society and fulfilling their social role. That's very Confucian and the goal here is to prevent social upheaval (after the experience of the Cultural Revolution), but I think Mussolini would think that's decadent. A fascist thinks things need to be dramatic. It's high conflict, heroic action-man of destiny stuff.

An aspect of vitalism is that there's a vital life force which seperates humans from animals and it's not a physical thing, but spiritual. It's a feeling. I think fascism is like taking something like the following and trying to make it the organizing principle of society, epic aura and hype moments really

>"le German fascists"
>it's nazis
How can one take anything seriously after this, over and over again? Nazis had 5 minutes of infatuation with Mussolini, because he took power and they didn't yet and that was their whole ideological connection. I guess Benito had to pretend that his ideology was a good fit to Germany's for 3-4 years during ww2 as well, while saving hebes from Hitler. Wow, such a strong thread there.
>>
>>25412174
You seem focused on the aesthetics of fascism rather than what the society looks like in concrete terms. But there's little difference between Mussolini's and Xi's regimes even in ideological terms, since both are preoccupied with irredentism, ethnocultural homogeneity and the ideal of national rejuvenation. It's just that one of them calls himself communist.
It raises the question of whether Mussolini would still be a boogeyman if he did everything the same but continued calling himself socialist instead of inventing a spooky new name for his movement.

>You seem focused on the aesthetics of fascism rather than what the society looks like in concrete terms.
I think aesthetics are constitutive of political systems, it's not just propaganda, it's an important part of how political life is lived and understood. But in more concrete terms, I think China is less militaristic than the fascist states were. Also less militaristic than the United States. I'm not even saying this because I'm glazing China, because I think the state is pretty authoritarian.

>But there's little difference between Mussolini's and Xi's regimes even in ideological terms, since both are preoccupied with irredentism, ethnocultural homogeneity and the ideal of national rejuvenation.
These things have appeared in a lot of different types of political systems. Charles de Gaulle was into national rejuvenation, or national grandeur. There's a strong current in favor of ethnocultural homogenity in post-war Japan, but no one would describe it as fascist. Arguably, Italian fascism put less emphasis on this than post-war Japan and South Korea have, although China attempting to Sino-fy (Sinofication?) minorities so they are more Chinese is similar. Class collaboration has also appeared in a wide variety of systems. The Soviet Union also had military parades and propaganda. So it doesn't make sense to define fascism that way. It's basically just defining it as nationalism with authoritarian features. Liberals do that a lot. Maybe they're right. But I think it matters what it's all for. For the fascists it was not ordinary people living normal, prosperous lives in a stable society.

My opinion on fascism is similar to Eco's (even though I disagree with most of Eco's points) in that fascism is essentially a vibe, both in the eyes of its detractors and supporters. It's not something you can easily pinpoint and identify. Even in its propaganda it's flexible and multifaceted, note how fascist Internet memes use both a masculine gigachad and ugly loser incel chud as self-inserts.
And of course the fact that flagship fascist elements constantly creep up in nominally non-fascist political systems is something that complicates the essentialist notion that fascism is something that can be taken in isolation and psychoanalyzed. China is the best example, a communist country that gradually transformed into a fascist one with a red flag. When CCP officials operate a mass surveillance system, spread nationalist propaganda and send enemies of the state into labor camps are they being motivated by some subconscious misogyny and "male insecurity"?
