The only story he has ever wrote that I liked was The Jaunt.
I think if he’d had any ability to throttle his output and refine his ideas, he would have been more of an intellectual heavyweight. As it is, he cranked out a lot of entertaining books. The book Misery gets some hate, but I think it’s the ultimate ship in a bottle book. Writing an entire narrative confining the character to a single room by himself for huge stretches of the book and turning it into an entertaining thriller is a monumental achievement in my eyes. And for whatever reason, I really enjoy Dolores Claiborne. Fantastically written and excellent usage of an unreliable narrator weaving a fiction in front of everybody.
