Just finished chapter one of this book. Meh. Still struggling to get into fiction reading. Still think it's pretty boring and pointless.
Congratulations, you managed to read a few pages before whining and seeking validation
>>25412045>To know the vintage and quality of a wine one need not drink the whole cask. It must be perfectly easy in half an hour to say whether a book is worth anything or worth nothing. Ten minutes are really sufficient, if one has the instinct for form. Who wants to wade through a dull volume? One tastes it, and that is quite enough-- more than enough, I should imagine.-Oscar Wilde
This book is really fun, I've read it twice.
>>25412160gay and retarded, nice Wilde.
>>25412045Fuck off woman, I despise people who think in emotions rather than propositions, people who rather than addressing what's actually said by someone dream up a psychology at the other end and then address this. This is known as ad hominem, subcategory psychologization, and it's not just extremely draining and unrewarding to read, it's considered an erroneous way of thinking by any serious intellectual.https://youtu.be/U3Jm8zF7bJ8?&t=2857

>>25410950I always thought Lermontov's poetry was superior to his prose. Don't judge poor Lermontov by just one single book, he is a very versatile author.
>>25412160That’s why I never read The Portrait of Dorian Grey, kek.
>>25412191You seem pretty upset, almost like he stung to the quick on that count.
>>25410950>starting out with fiction via translationsgrim. at any rate, what are you trying to prove? and to whom? if you don’t enjoy made-up stories, don’t read them.
>>25412211fuck off retard, also chapter one is 38 pages long
>>25412213I'm not trying to prove anything fucking dumbass. I'm trying to get into reading fiction but all books I try bore me. Learn to fucking read.
>>25410950What fiction have you tried reading so far?
>>25413126>too long to readDidn't say that. Again, learn to read. Retard.
>>25412045brainlet take
>>25413216Tranny
>>25413261Incorrect, try again, but if you need to, as you’re reading this, take the time to make another thread about how bored you’re getting and how difficult it is for you to read a few pages
>>25410950What's the best translation?
>>25413278Didn't read. Fuck off child.
>>25413271Fuck off retard
>>25413306> Didn't read.Yeah because you got bored and can’t read lol
>>25412191>links to a YouTube video describing debate fallaciesKEK, don’t let the doorframe knock your fedora off on your way out.
>>25413319same, based
Nothing but fucking brainlets on this site
>>25413306>didn't read>implying he ever does
>>25410950One method I try is to pull up an audiobook and read along; it makes the prose easier to digest, and a good narrator can elevate an already good story into something magical. Keep in mind though that some audiobooks might have a foreword that spoils the story. Also, if you're trying to get into fiction, you shouldn't start with novels, especially dense ones.
