What Tolkien works are worth checking out after finishing the Hobbit and the LOTR
>>25411111Depends on why you want more.So why?
>>25411111Does LOTR have any rune codes? I spent time translating the language today before starting in the hobbit and thought it was cool
>>25411111>He didn't start with The Silmarillion or Unfinished TalesRookie mistake. Children of Hurin is also good.
>>25411131There are runes in the wider legendarium, the script is called Cirth. It was originally the script of the Sindar, and was later adopted by the Dwarves for Khuzdul. Though these runes are not the same ones which appear in the Hobbit, to my knowledge.>>25411111Sillmarillion, Unfinished Tales, then the three great tales (Beren and Luthien, Children of Hurin, and The Fall of Gondolin). Then you can decide if you want to slough through the History of Middle Earth.
>>25411111why does the building in the image look so bad? i feel like it should look fairly stylish, and the gothic elements are not necessarily executed incorrectly, but something about it looks weirdly cheap. Like a lego imitation of a proper building. also check'd
>>25411546build between 1916 and 1949
Is reading lord of the rings worth it if I know all of the plot points from the movies?
That has to be built with modern materials. There's no way mere stone or brick could hold that much tremendous weight on such a narrow footprint.
>>25411635Yeah, because the movies changed a lot of stuff.
>>25411546I think the white elements make it look like a model someone didn't bother to finish painting.
>>25411111He has no other works. The rest are unfinished notes his son published for cash, not meant to be read
Hmmmm, I need to name the main hero. The one who finally throws the ring into the fires of mt doom. But what to name him?Hmm the one who throws the ring to the flames that forged it.The one that does the throwing of the one ring.DothrowNo, no, not quiteThrowdoNearly there old chap, nearly got it...
>>25412062This is what I thought, hence me asking.
>>25411546It's a modern building, so lacking the SOVL of war, time and weathering.
>>25412074>names the sad little creature that sinks into despair over the ring 'glum'
>>25412128DoThrow and GoGlum, carriers of the hardest burden to bear.
>>25411546iirc that building is in colombia
>>25411111Checked
>>25411635I'm in the sixth book (frodo half of RotK) rn and its definitely worth it, especially if you haven seen the movies in a while. Theres a lot more to it, and some characterization is quite different. Some parts are painfully slow but its still all a good read.
>>25412149'glum' starts out with a name that is almost an anagram of 'gleesome' too
>>25411111The silmarillion and the fall of numenor. I've yet to get my hands on a copy of unfinished tales.>>25412062>>25412123A half truth at best that is in basic essence a lie. Busy shopping for books so I won't expand for now.
>>25411546>why does the building in the image look so bad? It's just new. You register the clean mortar, sharp angles and so on as cheap or fake because old cathedrals don't have that look, but they did too when they were new.
Are the adventures of tom bombadil any good?
