It's not that I think "nothing is better than Wheel of Time," far from it. I just don't have any desire to read anything. I get bored and think, "I don't want to read this. Nothing here is getting my attention." How do I cure this? Even if- like when I read The Iliad I loved the first 3 books, then by the 4th I was getting bored and by the 5th I have no interest in reading the rest. I guess spending 18 months reading a single series really killed my interest in anything else.

The first four or five WoT books are pretty engaging they really fall off a bit later with a few rallies but I remember quite enjoying rereading 3-5.

Just read books that are only 100 pages. I usually don't like books longer than 200 pages either.

>>25413183Good question, I kinda had to force myself to even read Wheel of time at certain parts. Sunken cost fallacy made me finish the series. I liked half of it hated the other half. As for action, I hate action without meaning. That's why I'm having a hard time with Blood Meridian. It's just "Kill this guy, scalp him." That's a big critique I had with The Wheel of Time. Jordan would go "Umm nothing has happened for 300 pages, quick throw in some random thieves to fight!" But I really like the prose of McCarthy. I also like the prose of Robert E. Howard; he is my favorite writer in that regard. while I hate the prose of Herbert and King. I'm a plot-heavy guy; I like world-building, character development, plot progression (as in we move the plot, not just sit around and do nothing) and politics are cool if they mean something and it's not just people doing 4d chess moves for 100 pages and then nothing happening. I expect a pay off. I like the LOTR movies and the Silmarillion, I think the issue is that It's so close to The Wheel of Time that reading it felt like I was just reading The WoT again, so I bounced off of it.
