I love order. I love neat metadata. This website is designed to make me crawl up the wall into a corner. I can take emoticon ridden reviews of Jane Austen but one book having 70 different entries, some with the cover, some with the title not capitalized and so on. Fuck that mess. Unusable.

The problem with reviews sites is that they are filled with the unwashed masses and the unwashed masses don't discern style nor substance, they only care about the work's content. And this is worse for literature because people who read think themselves as smart for reading books, so they believe they don't need to educate themselves.
I don't believe /lit/ is better than goodreads, /r/books or the booktook community considering I once saw a retard insist that Tolstoy and George R. R. Martin had the same style since both use descriptions. The only relevant difference is that one group book fills their shelves with classics and the other with the latest corpo garbage.

Of those three, at least RYM had quality standards and taste beyond top 40 crap before poptimists took over. Letterboxd is fun for the one line joke reviews, but their obsession with interpreting every movie as a queer experience is extremely grating. Goodreads was never good.

it's gotta be some sort of superiority complex or something, right? Of course a site with 10 million users is going to have a shit general community. I have a goodreads just so I can see what my actual friends are reading, the reviews and ratings aren't useful to me.
Tbh it's the same shit with reddit. If you go to the front page or whatever then of course it's going to be a bunch of garbage. The way to use that site is to check specific subs for specific topics because that's the only place left on the internet where people are talking about most niches.
90% of 4chan is garbage too, even the ~3 boards I frequent. You can use all these websites for your purposes and not identify with the community

I figured out that the majority of opinions on anything is absolute trash. I've known it since I was a kid, and realized all the best shows got cancelled too. It doesn't matter where the people gather, the percentage of stupid opinions does not go down. The majority of people have no idea what's good or why, and they should, no, must be ignored. The only exception is when you have to dip your toes into listicles to maybe find something new.
