Alright /lit/. Let's settle this like men.

Illiad or The Odyssey?
>>
For me it's Illiad. Much more psychological depth, but Odyssey is a more interesting story.
>>
Anons, I want to read both. Which versions should I read?

Don't really care about the epics. Greek drama is better. The best literature from the Ancient world are the histories.
>>
For me, it's the comedies

lysistrata
>>
For me, Iliad, and it isn't close.
>>25414524
fitzgerald is pretty popular. i read lombardo in undergrad. lattimore iliad is considered quite good
>>25414840
>best literature are the histories
herodotus is peak, thucydides is a mixed bag imo, xenophon is pretty sleeper
>>25414843
very funny but definitely not better than homer
>>
>>25414524
Theres enough good translations that you might want to sample a few from the library or annas archive to see which one you find the most pleasant. I liked Wilson's Iliad a lot because it's a more traditional style in iambic pentameter instead of free verse or prose like some other popular translations. But just read a bit of several different ones and decide which you like.

Left scram button or right scram button? You see how stupid you sound OP?
>>
I said it once
I'll say it again
Goethe's Faust
>>
The Iliad. It has the better set of characters, greater psychological depth, it's more ambitious, yet complete, and in my opinion, has the better themes (the fragility of the human psyche, represented by Achilles x individual virtue, represented by Odysseus).

>iliad
fagles
>odyssey
also fagles
>>
The Iliad's themes were much more interesting and the story has more impact. The Odyssey is like a fun little romp. It's no wonder people think the latter was written by a woman.
>>
>>25413843
Odyssey has a more cohesive plot. But Iliad wins for the characters depth
>>
>gay tragedy or monster filled road trip that ends with the MC slaughtering all the dudes trying to fuck his wife
Hmmm...
>>

How did you like the latest issue of Dungeon Keeper Karl my friend? I can't wait for Branden Sanderson's Rainbirth #26, that's where I get all my monster fighting my little heart desires once I realized The Odyssey wasn't a trilogy xD
>>
>>25413843
the aeneid
>>25415036
the aeneid can be thought of as the third installation :P you should try it out :D
>>
>>25415083
>aeneid is the third of the trilogy
>overlooking the argonautica
>>
>>25415094
>argonautica is the third of the trilogy
>overlooking the oresteia
>>
>>25415123
oresteia is already a trilogy and also a completely different genre
