Do you think the Nobel prize in Literature is a good indicator of writing quality? Do you ever read the books from Nobel prize winners or those who get a Nebula or Hugo award?
>>
>Nebula and Hugo
genreslop is not literature
>>
>>25417082
So is Nobel prize more important when looking out for good literature?
>>
How many Nobel Prize winners are remembered as greats? Maybe five to eight out of 100+
>>
>>25417102
>Thomas Mann
>William Faulkner
That's all I can name off the top of my head.
>>
>>25417104
I actually went through the list and I would say about 40% of them get posted about regularly on /lit/ (as being good) in the past 15 years
>>
>>25417117
So it is indeed a good indicator, its nice to know!
>>
>>25417061
>Do you think the Nobel prize in Literature is a good indicator of writing quality?
Yeah, generally speaking. Not every Nobel recipient wrote worthwhile literature and many great authors didn't receive it, but I think if you're going to pick up a book by an author you've never read or heard of, it's a solid indicator.
Most /lit/ posters are completely ignorant about contemporary literature but I think if you look at the recipients of the last 10 years, they are probably giving out the prize to quality authors more frequently average: Bob Dylan is a meme choice, of course, and Gurnah is a literal who, but the rest are all serious authors.
>>
>>25417204
>but the rest are all serious authors
Nobody has heard of them, even less have read their books. At least Bob Dylan's writing was noticed by the world.
>>
>>25417215
>Nobody has heard of them, even less have read their books.
Not on /lit/, no.
>>
>>25417204

How is Dylan a meme choice, outside of pedantry about music/literature (unfortunate) divide.
>>
>>25417472
Name a piece of literature by Bob Dylan. Tell me what bookstore I can buy it from, in the form of a hardback or paperback book.
>>
>>25417090
yes
>>
>>25417472
Music is music and literature is literature. This isn't pedantic to anyone besides pedants such as yourself.
>>
>>25417472
dont ever bitch if some musician biographer wins a grammy, faggot.
>>
>>25417204
Hang chang ching chong gets roasted here every time someone posts a bait thread. The Veg is silent hill F tier roastie slop.

That polish foid who won got caught pretty recently saying her entire new book was written by AI.

Very serious authors.
>>
>>25417934
>Olga's new book is written by AI
Not true. Find me a source (read the article first). You won't be able to
>>
>>25417942
The source is her fucking mouth before she backtracked after people roasted her
>>
>>25417061
No, awards are completely meaningless.
>>
>>25417934
Bait
>>
fosse and kang are legit great so the nobel committee still awards real talent sometimes, even if they are still usually a glorified book club
>>
>>25418022
>are legit great
>like omg
>>
>>25417472
His lyrics without music are just awful poetry, like the vast majority of songwriters.
>>
>>25417102
There's probably more Hugo winners remembered as greats unironically speaking
>>
>>25417946
Thanks for conceding faggot. Go back to /pol/.
>>
Kang isn't that bad.
>>
>>25417061
No. Literary awards are just advertisements that still work against gullible fools.

Someone spends $100,000 on billboards and radio ads: ignored.
Someone spends $100,000 getting the book nominated for some award voted on by a mystery cabal of the author's close friends: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

>"Often I just ask the machine, 'darling, how could we develop this beautifully?'"

now ask yourself what bad word about AI had she ever said (before the backlash) that would put a limit on her repetitively asking AI
>make it better,
>make it better
>a little more of this
>perfect, print

the answer is NONE. And AI has only improved since. She only uses it more.

This is the problem with giving foids awards they don't deserve because you feel bad. Weak moral fiber that counts for nothing when the time comes. The foid brain doesn't think, it only rationalizes narcissism.

Full quote
>“When writing my latest novel… I asked this advanced model what kind of songs my protagonists would be listening to at a dance, a few dozen years ago, and AI gave me a few titles,” Tokarczuk told the interviewer. “Often I just ask the machine, ‘darling, how could we develop this beautifully?’ Even though I know about hallucinations and many factual errors in the algorithms in terms of economics and hard data, I have to add that in literary fiction this technology is an advantage of unbelievable proportion.”
Like any other conversation, remarks made before a live audience at a public event can be incorrectly understood.
Response to twitter tards like you who can't read a full quote or understand written language
>I did not write my forthcoming book – to be published in fall 2026 in Polish – either using AI or with anyone else. For several decades I have written alone.
>I state briefly and firmly:
>1. I make use of artificial intelligence on the same principles as most people in the world – I treat it as a tool that allows faster documenting and checking of facts. Whenever I use this tool I additionally verify the information. Just as I have done for several decades by reading books and by exploring libraries and archives.
>2. None of my texts, including the novel that will appear in Polish this fall, has been written with the help of artificial intelligence – except for using it as a tool for faster preliminary research.
>3. I am sometimes inspired by dreams, but before this sentence too is cornered and torn to pieces by the experts, I hasten to report that they are my own dreams.
You're the stupid nigger.
>>
>>25418733
why would you bother to write all this garbage out when it proves ME correct?

Your "full quote" is not a full quote, it's lies she told after she faced backlash for her original honesty. You have no ability to think critically, i.e. you are a braindead nigger.
>>
>>25418742
The full quote literally comes from the video a twitter tard translated into English. Kill yourself you stupid brown nigger.

WHO CARES it occurred AFTER the ORIGINAL ADMISSION

What are you not fucking getting about this?

I told you this from the VERY BEGINNING >>25417946 and you wasted my fucking time with all the bullshit I KNEW would happen anyway. Garbage like you is why nobody effort posts anymore and /lit/ is a past it's prime shithole for foid spam.

Every day I'm amazed at how brown /lit/ has become. This brownoid doesn't even understand what a quote is.

What about the Pulitzer prize? How does it compare to the literature Nobel?
>>
>>25419019
It's inferior. The better American prize is the National Book Award.
>>
>>25419019
PEN Faulkner and NBCC are the best USA book prizes
>>
>>25419019
It is not a serious novelist’s nightmare (the possibility is so absurd); nevertheless, suppose you fancied yourself a serious novelist (a writer, as they say, of the first rank), and a wire were delivered in your dream (the telephone rang, there was a sudden knock), and this were followed by the formal announcement that you, Julia Peterkin, or you, Marjorie Rawlings, or you, Allen Drury or Michael Shaara or Alison Lurie, had been awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for 1929 or ’39 or ’60 or ’75 or ’85. Well, what a pleasant supposition: to receive a prize, a famous one at that, with considerable prestige and the presumption of increased sales, as well as other benefits. Why should such a compliment to your art be denied; why should the thought be unlikely, the award embarrassing, the fact nightmarish? Because the Pulitzer Prize in fiction takes dead aim at mediocrity and almost never misses; the prize is simply not given to work of the first rank, rarely even to the second; and if you believed yourself to be a writer of that eminence, you are now assured of being over the hill—not a sturdy mountain flower but a little wilted lily of the valley.
>>
>>25418937

>>
>>25417061
I don't read modern slop.
>>
>>25417472
songwriting and prose/poetry are two different art forms
there's a reason why no songwriter has ever written a literary masterpiece of a novel/poem
>>
>>25418796
>Often I just ask the machine, ‘darling, how could we develop this beautifully?
> in literary fiction this technology is an advantage of unbelievable proportion

this is what he said and everything you've quote proves him correct
am I crazy? Am I talking to AI here?
>>
>>25419213
Did you read the sentences before that? No? Certainly saying you use AI for historical research like "What songs did people listen to at this time period? What dances were in vogue?" certainly that is different than his claim of "THE ENTIRE NOVEL IS WRITTEN BY AI"
How is what she did different than Googling??? Would you have a problem with writers admitting they Googled during the writing process???
>>
AI is inescapable as a tool. as long as it is used for things like research, editing, I see no issues. the issue is when the AI does the writing.

>THE ENTIRE NOVEL IS WRITTEN BY AI
THE ENTIRE NOVEL IS WRITTEN BY AI is what we reasonably
INFER
get it?

The rationale has already been given here: >>25418696

Again, do you not know how to think critically? Do you think her saying she also uses it for less egregious research contradicts the stronger claims she made in that same speech about how she runs everything by it? She never said anything to contrary. Again, what has she ever said that would indicate an limit to her AI use?

She literally says, AGAIN,
>in literary fiction this technology is an advantage of unbelievable proportion
so what the fuck do you think causing her to curb that advantage

She'll never admit her work is all AI slop, her publisher will never admit it, her publisher will do all it can for damage control, but everyone who's not a dipshit lemming understands exactly what she said and what she meant. You're a fucking sucker.

>>
>>25419864
What does
>‘darling, how could we develop this beautifully?'
have to do with a list of songs, thinkenstein? You are deliberately ignoring the part where she asks AI either to write passages for her or to give her ideas for developing the story.
>>
>>25419273
>If someone doesnt explicitly say why they would not do something, then you can assume they do it
You are so fucking stupid. Genuinely so fucking stupid. And since you never said anything about how you don't guzzle cum, it's really bold of you to be making such posts as an obvious cum-guzzler.
>>
>>25419891
everytime i see stories about how test scores are dropping like a fucking rock and kids today can't read, I think it has to be some elaborate troll. Anon was baiting just the other week with passage/multiple choice questions like from the SAT, and I'm thinking,

Out of like 120 winners, there are like 30 something of them that are great and well-known. The loser of this list is 100% Spain, they won it 6 times (same amount as Poland), but all of the spanish winners are literally whos.
Here, year by year:
1905 – Henryk Sienkiewicz
1907 – Rudyard Kipling
1915 – Romain Rolland
1920 – Knut Hamsun
1921 – Anatole France
1925 – George Bernard Shaw
1928 – Sigrid Undset
1929 – Thomas Mann
1932 – John Galsworthy
1946 – Hermann Hesse
1949 – William Faulkner
1954 – Ernest Hemingway
1957 – Albert Camus
1958 – Boris Pasternak
1961 – Ivo Andric
1962 – John Steinbeck
1968 – Yasunari Kawabata
1969 – Samuel Beckett
1970 – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
1982 – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
1983 – William Golding
1986 – Wole Basedinka
1993 – Toni Morrison
1994 – Kenzaburo Oe
1999 – Gunter Grass
2000 – Gao Xingjian
2012 – Mo Yan
2017 – Kazuo Ishiguro
2021 – Abdulrazak Gurnah
2024 – Han Kang
2025 – Laszlo Krasznahorkai
INB4
>I DONT KNOW THEM
you don't read, why are you here?
>>
>>25417102
I can think of quite a few, like TS Eliot, Hemingway, Camus, Steinbeck, Pasternak, Faulkner, Gabriel Garvia Marquez. But after going through the list of Nobel Laureates about 50% are literal whos and mamy of them are memes like Toni Morrison, Ishiguro, Han Kang. Overall the Nobel Prize for Literature has been dogshit since at least the beginning of the 80s.
>>
>>25417061
I downloaded a batch torrent of hugo and nebula winners. They are absolute slop dreck after the year 2008 or so. Complete ideological capture, only gay fat black women can win sort of situation. The older ones aren't that good either.
>>
>>25419223
What do you infer "how can we develop this beautifully" means in this context? In what circumstances would she ask the AI that question, and what sort of responses was she getting back, and how would this affect the work?
>>
>>25422314
Your victimhood is showing again, Timmy
>>
>>25417204
Even then, Gurnah is good. I'd never heard of him before the prize, but I really enjoyed both novels of his that I read
>>
>Pasternak
Kind of funny, considering he's not even 1% as popular as Sholokhov here
>>
>>25422330
>after the year 2008
there really is something about that year that shifted the rot into a higher gear across the board. People blame smartphones, and I agree, but smartphones don't explain that.

I really suspect the Obama cabal had something to do with it. I think it's underestimated.
>>

Sienkiewicz is dogshit
>>
>>25422962
Yeah, there were like 2 to 3 names I skipped, becouse I recognized them but wasn't sure if I just wasn't misremembering shit. I also skipped all the linguists and philosophers (Bertrand Russel, Sartre etc.). Is Eliot the american guy? I googled the names afterwards and the american guy who wrote in like 1920s sounded cool.
>>
>>25422960
occupy was a nothing burger that self-imploded like all "democratic" movements where women are allowed to speak
>>
>>25422288
Isn't the fact they are not well known even better? That means they are far more intellectual and not everyone can grasp their writing.
>>
>>25423592
trvke so sick of all the weird conspiracy theories about the failure of ows. what did they even demand? that bankers get arrested? for what crime? most of the bad loans were at the demand of the government pushing for more "fairness" in who has access to mortgages. force banks to give loans to people with no documented income, then cry when said ppl defaulting on their adjustable rate mortgage destroys the economy? ok. the gfc was caused by identity politics in the first place!
