Last week I distinctly remember going through some books on board and one was The Founder's Mentality, which is some kind of self help book for ambitious people. Another book about ethical power or something.So at least the financial 'elite' are just like most people, largely addicted to phones. truth is the elite and the most noble and aristocratic people in this world (or atleast the west) don't read much compared to the common man. you wouldn't see an elite publish a literary work that will gain actual literary merit compared to a random common man who spent his lifetime understanding sociology and psychology through community college. Depends what you mean with elite. I'm dutch nobility and in my family it's just the standard Latin and Greek classics like translating cicero that I think even commoner intelligentsia are familiar with. A big difference I notice between Noble families I know and commoners is the view towards fiction. Commoners see fiction as entertainment as best and as a waste of time or "lesser" compared to non-fiction. Nobility tends to view fiction through an entirely different lens. Seeing it as an almost platonic ideal of human experience and that you learn a lot about how people and society works by reading a lot of different fiction from different eras and especially in large amounts.Of course I'm Dutch and Dutch people are the most well-read people in the world so this might skew things.
