What's /literature's/ opinion on these books?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_Rome

Masters of Rome is a series of historical novels by Australian author Colleen McCullough, set in ancient Rome during the last days of the old Roman Republic; it primarily chronicles the lives and careers of Gaius Marius, Lucius Cornelius Sulla, Pompey the Great, Gaius Julius Caesar, and the early career of Caesar Augustus. It spans from January 1, 110 BC through to January 16, 27 BC.

Sounds like more airport-lounge slop t.b.h.

You don't see much discussion of historical fiction on /lit/ for some reason. I guess because as the other anon said there's the strong scent of airport novel slop on it

apparently this is peak historical fiction. It's cool that it starts on the republic before cicero. I heard the author was a massive Julius Caesar simp so his parts when you get there a few books in are nothing short of admiration.

It's true, I came out of this convinced that he did nothing wrong. Although I do wonder whether she had any textual support for her decision to have Caesar openly talk to his own dick in public as a rhetorical device.

I don't read female "authors"

There was definitely a puddle underneath her as she wrote that

You have to give her props for making Servilia the worst female character in literary history, then self-inserting into her so she can fuck Caesar by proxy, and then on top of that give Caesar a fetish for her back hair.

I suspect the claims of being "airport slop" are coming from historically illiterate people.

you have to be an accelerated reader to start and finish a book in an airport desu.
