Does anybody?Hows the volume when you type, will it go through your door and annoy other people in the house? I have been watching youtube videos of people using them but its still hard to tell as you have no idea how loud the microphone/my headphone volume is compared to reality.I am 99.9999999999999999% convinced any story told will come out better if you type it up with a typewriter vs write it on a computer but I live in an apartment and I remember neighbours complaining about the noise from Stephen Kings typewriter back in the day. Picture related, the typewriter Cormac Mccarthy used for all his novels.

>>25423556The other option im looking at is buying a refurbished laptop, installing linux, having it fully disconnected from the internet with nothing on it but writing software and then basically creating the digtial equivalent of this but I keep reading about the psychology of writing with type wrtiers and how it makes you write differently as you cant keep selecting and rewriting sentances like you do on a pc so you write slower and more thoughtfully.
Coincidentally I picked up a typewriter last week (pic related). I have enjoyed writing on mine; once you type you've committed which has pros and cons, and it's nice to get away from screens. It does feel substantially different from typing on a laptop or writing by hand. It's noisy enough not to use when someone in the house is sleeping but I don't think neighbours would be bothered by it.They can be found cheaply so if you find one I recommend picking it up. What's the worst that could happen?

How does the eraser/delete mechanism work on a type-writer? Just another tab pops up and covers it with edigs?

If you want distraction free there is software for that, hell, you could pirate WordPerfect 5.1 or Word for DOS and go Fullscreen mode with it.Without hard drives or off-site cloud syncs, the risk of losing a manuscript has to be utterly terrifying. A house fire, a stolen bag, or a lost parcel meant the work was simply gone forever. I mean fuck, In 1922, Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, Hadley, packed almost all of his early fictional manuscripts (and their copies) into a single suitcase to bring to him in Switzerland. The suitcase was stolen at a train station in Paris. Hemingway lost years of work in an instant and never recovered those stories. You actually want to live like that, carrying papers around that can't be encrypted or stolen? I'll take my computer with word processor with auto save and WEBDAV based backup.

I used one in the past. I did it find it more efficient (no distractions, no constant editing). But yeah, they're loud and can't be used during the night, so I threw it away.
What is wrong with a pen?
