It was boring. Not a whole lot happened and none of the characters were all that interesting. Frankly it put me off from reading the rest of the author's works. As for recs: read Mario Vargas Llosa, pretty much everything by him is top quality. The War of the End of the World is his magnum opus though I think some of his other works are honestly betterThe Feast of the Goat is my favorite of his, though partly because I read it after reading Mr. President by Miguel Angel Asturias, and then Harsh Times which was also written by Llosa but came out like 30 years after The Feast of the Goat, but the story takes place a decade or two prior and shares a couple of characters Mr. President > Harsh Times > Feast of the Goat gives you a really good look at how American interventionism ultimately ended working against itself in latin america and how susceptible the entire region is to authoritarianism. Another good author (mostly for essays rather than novels) is Arturo Uslar Pietri, though very few of his works have been translated to english but there's a pretty good compilation of his essays that came out not too long ago

¿Alguien ha leído Aquiles o el guerrillero y el asesino? Fue mi primer libro de Carlos Fuentes. No se si ese fue el mejor lugar por donde empezar, considerando que es póstumo y que tuvo que ser un poco editado para estar en condiciones de publicar. Honestamente no lo encontré tan bueno. Me gustó como escribe Fuentes pero fuera de eso las temáticas tratadas, los personajes y la historia no me llamaron mucho la atención.

If I'm not mistaken, with this I shall complete reading all his novels and prose literature. I think I still have a couple of poem books left and some columns or some shit. But yeah, this nigga has been there since my childhood and will always be there. I want to reread 2666 at some point but I'm not sure I want to commit now to something so long. But yeah, he's the goat.Actually if someone has recs about something similar or proper to read after bolaño I would love to hear. I liked arlt, onetti and those argentinian fuckers but nothing got close to mr B.
