This AI shit is so much worse than you think already.

>send full manuscript to a medium-big literary agency (less than 80k words, not even huge).
>bought their "FULL READ AND EVALUATION" package: an experienced editor will read all your book and give you a detailed review, and if we're interested we'll represent you with publishing houses.
>$220.
>wait 3 weeks.
>finally the evaluation report comes.
>full of compliments for the style, ideas, etc.
>initial excitement starts to give way to suspicion.
>start noticing a lot of "it's not X; it's Y" sentences.
>and I mean a lot.
>notice a couple of continuity mistakes a human editor wouldn't make because it would be immediately obvious they don't make sense.
>by the end I'm 100% sure it was written with AI.
>not even an expensive one, the free ChatGPT model on my phone could and did give me a report just as good, quality wise.
>angry email to the editor.
>he immediately admits to using AI, but tries to claim it's only "to reorganize our notes and present them in a more readable manner".
>point out that would already be too much, since NOWHERE on their site do they mention using AI for their evaluations, but besides that, it's clear that AIs were used to write the concepts themselves.
>he admits to that too and promises he'll send me a new evaluation, this time fully human.
>no refund offered.
>no shame.

This is happening in THE industry that more than any other should reject AI slop.
>>
Condolences. I am a shameless individual bht i cannot imagine ever using AI to write anything, it's horrid. If I can't get my work done i'd rather just suffer my just consequences.

>>no refund offered.
You absolutely should demand one since the advertisement listed that the editor will be doing the review, not the AI

>the year is 2040
>you've read your entire backlog of pre 2025 works/authors and then some
>now the next thing on your list is a book written in 2025 or later, a best seller with so many stickers and laurels on the cover it almost looks like an ad to a fancy french film festival screening
>it can't be that bad then, right?
>i mean, it's even my favourite author, genre and everything
>two pages in you realize that it's been AI-sloppified, entire paragraphs written with AI assistance in that unbearably retard friendly, robotically structured clanker style
>you close the book
>it's 2040 and reading is officially over
>you sigh
>time to answer the call
>back to Azeroth...

Many such cases

I think you were scammed, bud. Publishers scout for new writers for free, they take profit from selling your books, not from offering you services.
>>
>>25423979
You got scammed by a jeet.
>>
>>25423979
Is there a physical address of the agency? You should come there and stab some people.

Absolutely nobody in my country does that anymore. The only ways to get a foot in the door are:

1) win one of the extremely few contests for unpublished writers and hope to get noticed by a publishes,

2) get a literary agency to represent you.

Every year we publish hundreds of thousand of new books and people read less and less. AI slop has compounded the problem. The entire industry at this point runs on recommendation from someone already inside. You will simply NOT be read otherwise.

Every generation says that it's never been as bad but I really think this time it's the worse it's ever been, and it's not gonna recover.

kek. and these are the people who want to own your work and take 80+% of the residuals.
you are complete moron if you don't self-pub at this point.

Literally one of the first things my writing professor taught us is that you never ever pay agents. If an agent asks you for money up front, it's a scam. It's fashionable to shit on college writing classes but if you study under an accomplished writer, you do learn tons of little things like this that you may not have otherwise. Call you credit card company and see if you can get them to cancel the charges and stop engaging with these faggots.
>>
>>25423979
Thats why I self publish

Post it to xitter. Get them cancelled.

Is your name R.C. Waldun? Holy shit, you're so fucking dumb you deserve to get scammed.
>>
>>25424240
Hey retard. A literary agent represents you for free. They don't get paid until you get a book deal, at which point the agent takes a cut of your deal and future sales.
>>
>paying money to have an agency read your work
hilarious
>>
>no refund offered
are you aware of the fact that you could have... you know... asked for one of your own initiative instead of being an obedient cuck considering only the optioms that are presented to you?

AI chads strike again
>>
>>25423979
>paying an agency up front
This is always a scam btw

What country are you from?

You guys are mixing up vanity presses that demand you buy 200-300 copies otherwise they don't publish you, and literary agent who ask for a reading fee from unproven authors because they can't spend days/weeks reading your stuff without any sort of compensation.

The first is a scam, the second... also a scam, but with more steps.

>lOl iF ThEy AsK fOr MoNeY tHeY aRe a ScAm
So tired of these stupid kids thinking they know how it works. Look how clever they think they look replying with bullshit they read on reddit.

if you self-publish your stuff drowns into an ocean of millions of garbage books that at first glance are indistinguishable from yours. Sure, yours is a masterpiece and they're just slop, but guess who's gonna find that out? Fucking nobody, because you have no physical presence in book stores and no advertising.
>inb4 no i sell millions of copies
stfu

>>25424303
>Get them cancelled.
More like get sued.
And lose too because in many gay countries it doesn't even matter if you have evidence that somebody did something wrong, it's still defamation to talk about it. Especially using some media.

>>25424338
There is literally no alternative. No agent = no publishing deal.
And no agent reads whole manuscripts for free, since they receive dozens to hundreds per week.

>"but if they ask for money they're le scam"
We're not talking about vanity presses.TThey ask for a reading fee, then if they're interested they get you a book deal and they get a PERCENTAGE of the earnings.

You're not clever, you simply don't know what you're talking about. No agency or publishing houses in my country accepts manuscripts for free. They used to many years ago, now on the "send your manuscript" page they all say "we're not accepting new submissions".

What value is any trad publisher bringing in these avenues? Plenty of trad releases flop, about half of them sell less than a few dozen copies lifetime. You will still be expected to market your book. Meanwhile they now own the rights to your work and you make 12% residual, when you could've retained ownership and made 70% with self-pub. It's an appeal to authority that no longer passes the smell test.

>>25424385

I thought it was well known all “pay for feedback, consideration, publishing” type offers are SCAMS. Fucks sake this goes back to the 50s man.

All these replies really show that we need a board for adults and one for retarded kids (18-23).

Literary agencies already receive hundreds of manuscripts a week, and this is while making people pay for sending them. Imagine what would happen if they accepted everything for free, in the age of AIs that can shit out a whole book in 10 minutes.

You heard that vanity presses are a scam (which they are, you'll be in the hole for thousands of dollars while receiving none of the advantages of trad publishing) and your little pigeon brain simplified that to "dude spending even a cent on getting published is retarded".
And then you come here and regurgitate this "opinion" thinking you'll look cool. Over and over again, you and your little clones clutter the board with these "opinions".

This shit is at the same level as r/books but with less Count of Montecristo.
