I am currently in the process of purging at least 30% of my book collection (which was about 2 full IKEA 'billy' units, plus about two more shelves in another bookcase). I've gotten a library card about a year ago. 80% of what I read nowadays tends to come from there. I'm lucky to live in a moderately large European city that has a multi-story library with a great selection (fiction-wise, at least. Every object is something to 'care for'; something to be washed, something to be dusted, something to check the due date for, something to occupy storage space... We humans really don't need much after all. 4chan's kneejerk reaction is almost always to find spaces with a lot of stuff 'soulful', and emptier spaces 'soulless'. I'd say that someone reading, dusting and caring for the same one book for years would make that book more 'ensouled' than a 100 books that were bought but barely touched.

I also didn't mention that one of the main factors was being into some weird cult- like friend group. We would come to hang out then they would just talk about faith non stop, like some hardcore fanatics. It went on for years.
