It seems like most people here prefer physical books despite ebooks mogging the absolute fuck out of physical books in cost and convenience. What gives?
>>25426470physical books are just infinitely cooler than your black basic-bitch kindle
>>25426470Cocksucker.
>>25426470For me, grabbing a book off the shelf and being able to physically flip between pages is way more convenient than fiddling around with some gay little device. How about just let people do what they want?
>>25426470Supposedly ebooks have more typos. I personally don't notice that. But most of my ebooks came from Standard Ebooks. I heard they are a bit more careful.
>>25426470Flipping electronic screen light lux is not a cozy reading / studying vibe. That lamp on a book made of tree carcass in the evening, literally a higher life form that we humans, however, ís.Anyway, this is not an issue, Who cares how other people read texts? Don't care about that, it's not a problem. As long as sómeone's did the reading / studying before we have to do the 'acte de présence' in class.
>>25426499>>25426484>>25426476I specifically ask because I want to buy physical books and build a giant personal library for the aesthetics/cool factor, but my optimisation autism can't handle doing something that I believe to be resource inefficient. t. ebook reader, bought a physical book on a whim recently and found it to be pleasant.
There is no substitute for the smell of books. New ones are ok but I fucking love the smell of old books. It's something I strongly associate with reading.Using a screen does nothing for me.
The mode of delivery of a medium is almost as important as the medium itself. Reading a digital book is like watching a movie on your phone: yes technically it's the same thing but the experience is very different and inferior.
>>25426476What if you like both?
>>25426470Physical books for classics, all-time greats, textbooks, encyclopedias, collections you want to pass down, and books that lend themselves better to physical format compared to digitalebooks for general good reads, consumerslop, travelI have hardcover copies of the Iliad and Odyssey, Blood Meridian, The Hobbit and LotR trilogy, UlyssesI have electronic copies of The Martian, Reacherslop, most genre fiction, etc.
>>25426470So many richfags on this thread, you do reliase for average man how hard it is to keep more than 100 books in his studio apartment. I hate you richfags, go fucking die while masturbating to your jumbo book shelf
I like my ereader. I can put infinite books on it for free and customize the formatting to my taste.
>>25426470I am mostly missing the connection to the book itself. When buying a physical copy, the book is always in my home and I see it. Every time I see it, I may think a little about it. When "buying" an ebook, I won't get reminded of the book. Its gone. The only reminder would be to see it get talked about on here. I have only read maybe half a dozen books as ebooks, but I remember so little about them compared to the other physical books I have read in that time. So just the reminder, standing in front of the shelfs and taking out random books, flipping through them, etc. is enough. Another fact is the dedication. When buying a physical copy, it stays with you. There were a few books I tried once, but couldn't really get into them (f.e. Bernhards Frost, Evolas DoA, Meister Eckhart Sermons). Every time I was at home, the books looked at me with disgust after trying to read them. Making me feel like a vaginal jew. Polluting the air with the transcending feminizing hormones. After not being able to take it anymore, I tried them again and ended up loving them. When I buy a physical copy the chance of actually finishing them is probably much higher. >>25426855Wtf are you on about? What does the amount of books even have to do with anything. Depending on the source you get your books from, it may average around 10 Euros per book. At most. Thats 40 Euros a month. Read more than 3 years and you are supposedly upper class according to you. Read Orwell comparing reading to smoking or something idk. Books don't take a lot of space and you can put them anywhere. Kitchen cabinet, windowsill, stacking them from the floor, shelfs. Where is the high cost coming from?
>>25426729This nigga is inhaling mold
>>25427081shut up rich fag, the maintenance is on space, my apartment doesn't have space and ebooks are basically free. I ain't making space for my 161 books library in my home when I can put them in my small e-reader. You richfags just can't grasp how does poorfucks like me survive, God bless e-readers and internet broke richfag monopoly on reading
>>25427081>When "buying" an ebook, I won't get reminded of the book1) dont waste money buying an ebook idiot2) download when you want to read it, finish it, simple as. if you like it a lot, get a physical copy
>>25426738OP here, this convinced me, thank you anon
>>25427129Nigga I definitely get paid below average for my country, while paying for two apartments. I just don't have a car, females or any other hobbies in my life. I just put the books in my fucking apartment. There is space everywhere. It doesn't have much to do with money. If you had 200 Euros more per month, you still wouldn't have physical books. >>25427133>dont waste money buying an ebook idiotThats why I put the "buying" in these quotation marks. I ain't paying for digital books. >download when you want to read it, finish it, simple as. if you like it a lot, get a physical copyBut there is no pressure. These are definitely the effects of the 1968 movement I am feeling here. I don't fuck 100 prostitutes and choose the few I like. I marry all of them and try to make everything work. I wouldn't have read Bernhards Frost, because nothing would have drawn me to it again. The only reason why I made a second attempt, was because I could feel its pitiful look on me. If I deleted it, there would have been to stares. Just stopping and not trying to repair the relationship between me and the book is similar to what the 68 movement did. The more often you end a relationship, the more likely you are to end future ones. It becomes a habit. I don't want that. I am the solar warrior after all. I don't want that type of foid stuff to happen to me and my books. Sometimes you have to cut the rope to get to the top. But honest question regarding the buying of a physical copy if you like a book. Why? I have heard to people do that, but I could never really figure this out. To re-read? Or is it more like some trophy type stuff?
>>25426470I read on an ereader almost exclusively for 2 reasons: I have ADHD and an ereader helps, and AA is free and has way more books than any bookstore.I do like physical books, but there's just no real reason to spend money on them, unless its for display, or if the analogue version has a fun gimmick, like Horrorstör, which looks like an IKEA catalogue. (I actually really fun gimmicks). I still have a couple hundred books, of course, but I rarely go out of my way to buy them, anymore.
I would buy physical book copies of books more if buying the version I wanted wasn't hard and didn't require me to pay a premium look at this fucking garbage and compare it to...
>>25427343...pic related former looks like total trash that i'd unironically be embarrassed to see on my bookshelf, latter has artwork I could stare at all day
>>25427348forgot to mention that I can easily find cheap deals on the former series, but I can't on the latter same deal with pic related, what the fuck am I looking at here? I get that he's supposed to be blinded but still...
>>25427358there's a million amazing cover arts for the trial, but this is my favourite, but finding other Kafka books in the same style is a nightmare really book collecting is a hobby in of itself
>>25426470If you get an e-book version of every printed book you have, you get the best of the two worlds.
That's a thoughtful question. For me it's physical books every time— it's not the superior battery life of ageless ink and paper that does it for me, it's that I know for a fact that a physical book isn't going to give me rectal cancer after fucking me in the ass while I sleep. You can't trust a guy who has to lubricate his books before reading because of his weak eyesight Just saying.
>>25426470It's just preference, really.I'd say physical books add a lot to the novelty of reading and, as you said, e-books are more convenientI prefer the convenience, but a lot of people prefer the 'charm' that physical books have.
>>25426507Oh, it's a zoomer.
Ebooks, I don't like buying stuff I'm not gonna use frequently. And for decor I'm more into paintings and prints
>>25426855Give me a break. The vast majority of the books in my library I got for less than $5, many of them for free.
>>25427663What is so zoomerish about my post?
>>25428636It's typically young people that have a vested interest in collecting dumb shit and blaming it on a disability.
>>25426470I mostly read e-books but I have a romantic idea of passing on my books to my future children. It's special to read my parent's books from their youth with all their annotations even though the yellowing is almost enough to put me off. My rule is to read non-fiction and unfamiliar authors as e-books. When I want to re-read a book I buy a physical copy.
