>>25426981Many people take the first noble truth (dukkha) and translate it to "pain" or "suffering". I think there is some debate that a translation such as "restlessness" or "commotion" is more suitable. The first noble truth basically means that life is suffering or rather restless. The endgoal of Buddhism is pretty much nibbana/nirvana. To achieve it, you should not be restless anymore. You should have cut off the bonds of craving and aversion. Buddhism believes in rebirth (not reincarnation). In a quick rundown, it basically means that all your unresolved attachments and actions (kamma) get passed down to another mental process. Not the self gets transferred. it is like a torch, that gives its fire to another torch. When nibbana is achieved, there is no rebirth anymore. Philosophical pessimism has at its most basic position that it would be better to not exist at all. That would be achieved by achieving nibbana. Which would be the final goal of Buddhism. Thus you could count Buddha as a philosophical pessimist. My explanation is a little sloppy at times though.
schop -> nietzsche is enough
>>25426678I believe that life is suffering, the world is evil, that we all live alone and that God is not interested in helping any of us. We all live our lives in suffering and we will never get any of the answers to the real questions.But I also believe that death is not the end and that there is something more to all of this than it seems although none of us truly know what it isWould i be categorised a pessimist?
