Why are young people finding it increasingly difficult to read narrative texts in third person?

There are likely many writers that have difficulty writing with clarity in third person for the same reasons people have difficulty reading it. I do think it's just inherently more difficult to follow the events of a purely written story when it is told from third person. The reason is because your mind's eye has to act as a sort of omniscient camera moving freely vs. having one vantage point that is highly familiar to you. A third person perspective is simply not the natural state that life perceives the world in. This is only an issue in writing because it requires full visualization from the reader. With a movie all of that mental effort is offloaded.So there likely is a correlation with intelligence here in terms of raw brain power. It's the same kind of thing as imagining the apple and similar tests. Many people simply have a lower capacity for imagination AKA abstract thinking and the general process of controlling their mind to some end.
Makes you wonder how people told stories to them growing up. Did every narrative they heard from an adult go "So I went to the store in my car... "
Its not that we cant or find it hard to read third person, its just inferior compared to 1st person
I bet it's an effect of the capacities of consciousness people develop depending on their exposure to literature vs oral and visual media. Younger people consume massive amounts of oral and visual media, and very little literature, so their mind is structured in a slightly different way. Third person narration (especially if you look at the history of its development in the form of the novel) is kind of foundational to the kind of mental state that literature creates, where you slowly observe and understand something opaque, like another person's inner monologue, from the outside.
